The Hanging Balloons are the titular main antagonists of the Junji Ito manga of the same name, as well as its epilogue manga Return of the Hanging Balloons.
They are a species of giant balloon-like creatures with heads that resemble those of their owners with nooses attached to them. One day, they arrive in large numbers around Japan, with their sole purpose being to find their owners, and then tie them by their necks around their nooses, which then kills them.
When the creatures start getting attacked, the flesh of its victims starts turning to nylon. As a result of this, if one attempts to destroy the creatures, the same fate will also occur to its owner, as shown in several instances of trying to eliminate them.
Biography[]
A month before the ending of Hanging Balloons, Kazuko's best friend Terumi, a former TV personality and model, hung herself using a metal wire wrapped around a telephone wire.
