Hans Nemesis is the secondary antagonist of Grand Theft Auto: London 1969.
He is an enigmatic Austrian terrorist who leads an unnamed terrorist gang and seeks to kill countless through various means. He's seemingly the archenemy of Endeavour Chambers, who the game's protagonist is mistaken for.
Appearance[]
Hans is a brown-haired man with a green shirt and blue pants who's in a wheelchair.
Biography[]
Background[]
Nothing is known about Hans Nemesis' past. That said, he's the leader of an unnamed terrorist cell who is described to a power-hungry egotist who threatens the world.
London 1961[]
In the walkie talkie mission of "When We Were Very Small", the protagonist is tasked with stealing a car for Harold Cartwright's mother. When they find one, it turns out it belongs to secret Endeavour Chambers. The protagonist is mistaken for him, and his superior tells him that they suspect Hans Nemesis, who has recently gotten into the potato business, is planning something sinister. After stealing one of the potato trucks, they discover it's full of explosives, and thus Nemesis is planning to sell explosive potatoes to kill people. To stop him, the protagonist's superior tells them to plant bombs in Grandpa's wheelchair. After they distract Nemesis' goons with Chambers' car, the protagonist starts remote controlling Grandpa's wheelchair and has it blow up next to Nemesis' warehouse. With his plan foiled, Nemesis flees the country.
London 1969[]
Once the protagonist completes the Northwest Bow phonebox missions in Chapter 3: Chelsea Smile, they are ordered to steal Chambers' car as revenge for messing with Jack Parkinson's girls. Once they enter it, they are mistaken for Chambers and warned that Nemesis has stolen an ICBM and plans to launch it. They go steal it from him, and Nemesis himself warns them that they have 75 seconds to bring it back to his garage, or else it explodes. After doing so, killing some of his henchmen and getting back to Chambers' car, they are alarmed that he's hidden the launch codes in two cars. After retrieving the codes, the protagonist deactivates the missile, thus saving the world.
Hans then returns in Chapter 4: Dead Certainty. In one of the missions, the protagonist is mistaken for another agent, Agent Temple, and is warned that Nemesis is going to poison London's tea supply. After stealing one of his vans so it could be analysed, they are told to converse with a docker who's seen Hans' men and warns them that they will arrive in a limousine. Once it's blown up, the protagonist confronts Nemesis face-to-face, who proclaims himself immortal before, ironically enough, killing himself via exploding. Thus, the tea crisis is solved and his plans are foiled forever.
Personality[]
Hans has been described to be "power crazed" and "megalomaniacal" by the protagonist's superiors, which is supported by him seeking to claim an ICBM to torment the world and kill countless, if not possibly the world itself, with it being clear he's done this before. His dialogue proves he is sadistic and egotistical, calling "Agent Temple" incompetent, proclaiming his plans to be cunning, and killing himself to spite the protagonist while proclaiming himself unstoppable.
Trivia[]
- Hans and the agents he faces seem to be intentional references to the James Bond series.
