The Happy Happyists are minor antagonists in Mother 2/EarthBound.
They are the numerous members of a cult known as Happy Happyism, led by Mr. Carpainter. The cult itself consists of people that were brainwashed by the Mani-Mani statue into an obsession with the color blue. As a result, they all have a drive to paint all things blue. In the game, the cult kidnaps Paula.
Appearance[]
Almost all of the cult's members wear outfits that are entirely blue. They are seen wearing onesies with black ties on them, as well as pointed hoods with eye holes in them, as well as the initials "H H" on them. In local releases of the game, these hoods have pom-poms on them, and the initials are entirely absent.
Biography[]
Ness encounters many members of the cult members when he reaches the small town of Happy Happy Village. Whenever he encounters them, they will always try to ambush him.
While at the village, Ness also discovers that the cult had imprisoned a telepathic girl named Paula, who had predicted that he would come to save her. After meeting with Paula, Ness then meets up with Porky Minch, who reveals to Ness that he had just become a chief member of the cult, and then sends several of the cult members after Ness, who he then defeats.
Later, Ness enters Mr. Carpainter's lair, which is crowded with many of the cult's members. Ness then encounters the man himself, and defeats him, effectively freeing Paula.

- In localized versions of the game, the sprites for the Insane Cultists were changed due to their resemblance to Ku Klux Klan members.[1] The sprites were altered so that their hoods had pom-poms, though their original Japanese sprites could still be seen in a section of the EarthBound's player guide.
