The Hare Statue is the mascot of the anthology horror comedy series Inside No. 9. Appearing as the main antagonist of the season four finale "Tempting Fate" and having cameo appearances throughout numerous other episodes.
It is a sadistic genie-like figure who always creates a devastating drawback to every single wish it grants out of bitterness for being forced to serve people for all eternity.
Biography[]
Little is known about the statue's history, however it is known that it was once used by a man named Frank who was granted his three wishes although after learning of the Hare's history panicked and locked it away in a safe before spending all of the lottery winnings the hare had granted him in an attempt to nullify the effects. He grew insane overtime and became a hoarder before finally trying to kill himself on numerous occasions, on each attempt however he would always end up coming back thanks to the Hare granting him immortality much to his dismay.
On one such occasion his suicide was brought into the public eye after neighbours complained about a horrible odour coming from his flat leading to three council contractors Keith, Maz and Nick being assigned the task of cleaning out of his possessions from the scene. During their attempt at this however they wound up finding the hare statue and a video made by Frank instructing however found the hare to get rid of it. Maz and Keith didn't listen to the warning, Keith out of scepticism and Maz out of greed whereas Nick was genuinely shaken due to his degree level knowledge of the supernatural and believed in the hare having some dark qualities to it.
Maz ends up using the Hare however much to Nick's horror and she is granted the wish (a large sum of money) when she and Nick find a bag full of monopoly money, Nick is amused however Maz is enraged, unbeknownst to the two of them however Keith had found a box of monopoly containing the real remainder of Frank's riches, Keith tried to take the money in order to pay for his son's operation but Nick protested leading to a huge confrontation between the three which concluded with Maz stealing the money before accidentally killing herself. Keith after a brief argument with Nick knocks him unconscious before dropping a bottle of vodka next to him, proclaiming he's the one who actually killed Frank and that the hare was just a hoax. Just as he finishes claiming this however Frank returns home and explains his immortality to a regretful Keith.
In the final moments of the episode however Nick reveals himself to be alive and uses the final wish to restore Keith's son to good health, unfortunately this happy ending doesn't last as the hare brings in it's final drawback and blows the flat up via a loose gas pipe, killing everyone with the exception of itself and Frank who couldn't actually die.
Personality[]
Little is known about the hare on the surface since it has no voice or way of expressing itself, however it has an apparent personality and is shown to be a bitter and sadistic creature who begrudgingly performs its duties while at the same time using its abilities to create horrific consequences to those unfortunate enough to make a wish without knowing of its ill intentions.
Appearance[]
The hare is simply that of a silver hare ornament statue with immense detail. In some episodes however it appears in more of a brownish colour.
