Harvey Weinstein is the main antagonist of the 2022 biographical drama, She Said which was based on the real-life publishing of his crimes by the New York Times. Based on the real life film producer who was convicted for his sexual misconduct with employees throughout the 1990s to 2017.

He was portrayed by Mike Houston in his first villainous role.

Harvey Weinstein was born in Queens, New York on March 19th, 1952 to a Jewish-polish family. He grew up with his younger brother, Robert, in the rich neighborhood of Pomonok. He later graduated from John Bowne High School and attended the State University of New York at Buffalo. Alongside his brother and a friend from college, he ran independently produced rock concerts at Harvey & Corky Productions in Buffalo which helped them to gain the funds for Miramax, which produces independent films.

The films begins with Laura Madden witnessing a film production nearby her home in Ireland, only to been seen running away because of an attempted rape by Weinstein after promising her to become a close worker of his.

in 2017, Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey, two journalists from New York Times, got a tip from actress Rose McGowan. McGowan declines the option for an interview, in fear of being treated more or less as a joke. Kantor later speak with Gwyneth Paltrow and Ashley Judd on their experience with Weinstein, but asked to remain anonymous in the publication. It was revealed by one of Weinstein's female assistant who worked in Miramax, that most actresses and employees of Weinstein are scared to speak on his accusation is because they all have signed an non-disclosure agreement.

Twohey tried to reached out to the past CFO of Miramax and EEOC, only to be rejected. She later speak to former member of the district attorney's office, the reason why most of criminal complaints and cases were dropped so quickly is because he has social connection with most of the employees in the DA office.

Kantor receives a tip about three female personal assistant of Weinstein, Rowena Chiu, Zelda Perkins, and Laura Madden, who were all sexually abused by him. Kantor tried to flies out to interview Chiu, but was unavailable due to her keeping her experience from her family in fear of being seen as weak to them. It was revealed to Perkins that Chiu was raped by Weinstein, when Perkin confronted Weinstein he claim he wouldn't because of her Asian ethnicity not being his type. Kantor later reached out to Madden, at first she declined the offer but changed her mind after to one of Weinstein's representative reaching out to her to not speak on the matter.

Weinstein begins to become more paranoid on the investigation sends his lawyers to appease the reports made by New York Times and declines all accusations and being on record. Kantor receives an anonymous tip to speak with one of Weinstein's accountant, Irwin Reiter; which he showcased an internal memo that was circulated at Miramax since 2015 that details of Weinstein's abuse allegations from a former employee. Writers of TIMES and members of Weinstein Company's board had meeting discussing about the reports. Weinstein continues to deny any involvement with his accusations and attempted to pressures the reporters to name their sources. He later threated them by discrediting them claiming all they care about is making a headline by destroying his career and threating them that he'll go to other news source to tell his side. Weinstein eventually released a statement about his acknowledging about the reports, claiming he has caused pain to others in the past, stepping down The Weinstein Company. Kantor and Twohey begins to pressure their sources to go on records, at first declining but Madden and Judd.

Aftermath[]

After Kantor and Twohey's published the story on TIMES on October 5th, 2017, more than 82 women come forward with their own allegations against Weinstein. This led to workplaces and legal reforms, it also sparked the #MeToo movement. Just like the real Weinstein, he's sentences to 23-years in prison under the charge of rape and sexual assault in New York, along side with other additional charges pending elsewhere.
