When the world grows too convenient, people forget the value of a single byte. People can do anything with just one meg. If you forget that feeling, your creativity dies.
~ Hasuu Kihara to Ladybird

Hasuu Kihara is a major antagonist of A Certain Magical Index: Genesis Testament, serving as one of the main antagonists of the Operation Handcuffs Arc and the main antagonist of the Post-Handcuffs Arc.

A member of the Kihara Family, Hasuu is a scientist who mainly specializes in the creation of Androids and is the creator of Ladybird. He’s also the archenemy of Drencher Kihara Repatri and Frillsand #G.

Appearance[]

Hasuu is an elderly man with a skinny figure and has white hair and yellow eyes. He wears a white lab coat with a dark blue jumpsuit and a brown jumper underneath. He also wears a pair of yellow and black engineering gloves on his hands.

Personality[]

Like most of the Kiharas, Hasuu is a rather eccentric yet malicious and twisted individual who commits horrible atrocities in the name of science. However, among the Kiharas in the series, Hasuu is by far the most insidious and monstrous introduced as of yet. He is an extremely cruel, depraved, vile, murderous and remorseless psychopath whose absolutely devoid of any conscience or guilt. He holds zero qualms with killing, maiming or torturing people who gets in his way. Hasuu displays an utterly callous disregard for the wellbeing of others, as shown when he cheerfully asks Drencher if he could "borrow" a few child errors for his lethal experiments.

Moreover, Hasuu is incredibly sadistic, ruthless, and manipulative, taking immense enjoyment from the suffering of others. This is best shown when he raised Ladybird with the values of human life, kindness and a desire to help and protect others, only to install her with a system that requires her to consume human brains in order to survive for his own amusement. He openly admits that he didn't need to built her that way but chose to because he believed it would be humorous to see Ladybird's reaction. He also reveals that Ladybird's name comes from a nasty insect that lives off of humans by imitating a ladybug.

Hasuu tends to make a show of acting uncomfortable whenever Ladybird undresses in front of him, but Ladybird herself points out that he deliberately designed her as an attractive (and anatomically accurate) woman who has to undress in order for him to do maintenance on her.

Biography[]

Hasuu's full background isn't known, what is known is that he's apparently a skilled scientist in Academy City, primarily on the dark side, being a member of the Kihara Family. He's one of the few people who knows about Aleister's Archetype Controller and how he used it to split the world into the magic and science sides. Hasuu created Ladybird at some point in time.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

Artificial Ghost Physiology: Before his death, Hasuu managed to reverse-engineer High Voltage Cutting and used it to become an artificial ghost like Frillsand #G. However, he omitted many of Frillsand #G's potent abilities (such as her ability to induce death). Hasuu's ghost body is composed of electricity. Due to this, he was shown to be immune to Touma's Imagine Breaker and would electrocute him on contact. He also displayed some control over the Vanishing Tunnel, an underground space beneath Academy City that's a large amalgamation of AIM Diffusion Fields and is also called Academy City's Greatest Taboo.

  • Semi-Intangibility: Hasuu is able to interact and touch physical objects to an extent, unlike Frillsand #G. He was able to use a chainsaw during the battle on December 29th.
  • Taboo Control: Through manipulating the Taboo's malfunctions, Hasuu is capable of altering the space and materials to a degree. He could control the concrete ground to make people step through it and get their foot stuck. He mainly used this power to extract carbon from inorganic objects within the Taboo. He was able to use the carbon to scatter sparks from his chainsaw in a manner similar to struck flint, and weaken objects and structures so that they can be cut through easily or collapse. By extracting carbon from the ground, Hasuu was even able to release the stored seismic energy and create tremors.
  • Levitation: In his ghost form, Hasuu is able to levitate above the ground.

Coin of Nicholas: Hasuu could use the Coin of Nicholas, a spiritual item that grants wishes on Christmas Day only. The coin is able to cause any designated phenomena and ignore all probability in order to grant the wish with a 100% success rate. He tried to use his to make Hamazura's gun explode, but it backfired on him badly, resulting in his death.

Abilities[]

Genius-Level Intellect: As a member of the Kihara Family, Hasuu is a very intelligent individual who possesses vast scientific knowledge and expertise. His main field of research is android development, best shown by his creation of Ladybird. He's also extremely skilled in computer networking as well as hacking, having apparently been involved in building the foundations of the internet. Moreover, Hasuu managed to analyze and reverse-engineer Drencher's High Voltage Cutting and used it as a countermeasure against Frillsand #G in the shape of a pinhole camera, forcing her into conflict with the Vanishing Tunnel and causing her to malfunction in the process. He also utilize the underlying processes himself to persist after his initial death. In addition to this, Hasuu created the equipment used by the Anti-Skill Aggressors.

Equipment[]

Parasite Hardware: Nanodevices in the form of fine powder which Hasuu can use to infect computer networks. Parasite Hardware will directly attach to signals and travel through fiber optic cables in order to move around a network.
