HATRED is a major antagonist in the 2024 Roblox RPG game Block Tales, serving as the main antagonist of the game's third chapter, All Hallows' Eve.

It is one of the four emotions the player has in the game. It seeks control and power over the other emotions and tries achieving that by disguising itself as Builderman and manipulating the player into "purifying their soul" by defeating the other emotions. Despite the warnings, the player defeats the emotions and Hatred manages to get to the player's heart. The player defeats Hatred, however it, unbeknownst to the player, still lurks in the player's soul.

Appearance[]

While Hatred disguises itself as Builderman, it has the attributes of an average blocky Roblox avatar with a Pale Ivory skin tone, Black pants, A construction hat and an orange shirt with black sleeves with a Pipe Wrench and the original Roblox logo. After Fear is defeated, Hatred's true form reveals it to be a dark red thin and slim figure with horns and a spiked tail. It is highly malleable and is capable of morphing into various shapes. On some occasions, liquid can be seen dripping out of its features.

Personality[]

Hatred, in the guise of Builderman, initially appears to be polite, encouraging the player into "purifying" themselves. After shedding its disguise, however, Hatred reveals its sinister, calculating personality, having manipulated the player into defeating Greed, Solitude, and Fear in order to consume the player's heart. True to its name, Hatred also shows wrath, as revealed in its aggressive manner of fighting and loud roaring.

Biography[]

Before getting to the Ghostwalker, some NPC's (More specifically Tutorial Terry, the Ghost Chef and Shedletsky) warn the player about the consequences of touching the Ghostwalker as any mortal with an impure soul who touches it will die physically and will have to face their inner demons which people choose not to do. The Ghost Chef, Tutorial Terry and Jerry help the player get to where the Ghostwalker is kept and when the player gets to the Ghostwalker, The penguins try getting to the Ghost Chef and the layer is left alone. The Player tries unsheathing the Ghostwalker themselves, resulting in the player dying upon touching the sword.

When the player wakes up, they find themselves in a 2D dimension called "The Dream World". Upon waking up, they also find Hatred (Disguised as Builderman) in the house the player wakes up in, claiming he has been stuck inside the Ghostwalker for years. Due to the players impure soul, they are now stuck in the dream world with Builderman and they will have to find a way out. The player and Builderman explore The Dream World where the player will have to fight against their negative emotions, first being Greed, second being Solitude and last being Fear. During Solitude's and Fear's battles, they both constantly warn the player about Builderman but the player doesn't listen. After defeating Fear, Builderman reveals himself to be the last emotion, HATRED. As the player traverses through the vein centre, the player finds Hatred near the heart. Hatred explains how gullible the player was and defeating the other three emotions left the soul vulnerable and corruptible. The player faces Hatred in a battle. After Hatred is defeated, the soul finally becomes pure and the player wakes up in the real world. The Ghost Chef tells the player that they are the first person to purify their soul and tells them that they are the bravest person he has ever met. After the speech, the player is now rewarded with the Ghostwalker.

After obtaining the Ghostwalker, the player can face HATRED again in the Hateful Nirvana in The Guru.

Powers and Abilities[]

In Battle[]

  • Corruption: Hatred charges up before projecting three spherical orbs made of corrupt energy at its target. If the target doesn't dodge one of the orbs, they will be confused.
  • PK Thunder: Hatred charges up and shapeshifts itself like resembling an orbital cannon before firing a thunder shock in the sky that strikes at it's target.
  • Charge Outburst: Hatred curls into a ball before charging itself. In the next turn, it releases an outburst of energy, instantly killing any player and ally if they don't use the Ghostwalker or their Ghost Potion.
  • Call for Help: Hatred contours itself into a demonic face before summoning an Apparition to help it on the field.

General[]

  • Shapeshifting: Hatred can shapeshift into anything outside of it's true form. It shapeshifts into Builderman before it's battle and transforms into different shapes during the battle.
  • Manipulation: Hatred was able to manipulate the player into thinking it was an ally to them despite the challenges it faced.
  • Non-physical: Hatred isn't a physical being, rather being an embodiment of the emotion of the same name living in the players brain.

Trivia[]

  • Hatred is directly inspired by Giygas from the Earthbound series.
  • Hatred and The Ancients are the only final boss of a main chapter to not hear the voices, due to never wielding the Ghostwalker.
    • However, in Chapter 4, Captain Trotter was the one to hear the voices instead.
  • Attempting to use the prayer card when Hatred is above 10 HP will result in doing nothing with the dialogue "[Player]'s call was absorbed by the darkness..." However, using the prayer card while Hatred is 10 HP or under will result in dealing 1000 damage to all enemies in the field and the dialogue instead says, "[Player] prayed and and HATRED got banished!"
  • It was heavily implied to be responsible for the voices that the Cruel King and The Griefer were hearing when they were wielding the Ice Dagger and the Venomshank respectively. However, this would be debunked as one of the storywriters confirmed that Hatred is the physical manifestation of the Voice's effect on the player.
