Hayato Nanjo Title

Hayato Nanjo was the main antagonist of the Detective Conan/Case Closed episode "The Death God Jinnai Murder Case"/"Jinnai, King of Death" He was a movie actor who played the lead character The Death God, Jinnai. However, an event that happened three years ago would be revealed, exposing him as a real death god.

He was voiced by Yoshizo Yamaguchi.

Biography[]

Hayato Nanjo made his first appearance at the premiere of Jinnai, King of Death Part VIII where reporters are taking pictures of him. When Conan, Ran and Kogoro notice him, a woman approached Kogoro (who he thought was trying to flirt with him) to ask him for help, who she introduce herself as Miyuki Nanjo, the young wife of Hayato Nanjo (where Kogoro greeted her normally) as she wants him to come to hers and Hayato's Office for something important, which Hayato gave a angry look upon seeing his wife and Kogoro.

At the Office on the top floor, Miyuki revealed that Hayato was given a note that stated that he would die at midnight by The Death God, Jinnai. However, Hayato believed it to be nothing more than a prank and was upset that Miyuki would interfere with this and asked Kogoro and the others to leave but Kogoro suggested that he stayed because his wife was worried about his life, but he rudely told Kogoro leave and told his manager Satomi Yoshino to take the rest of the day off.

Later that night, a news crew is seen outside the office building as it seems that someone has tipped off Hayato's death threat from Jinni. While there's a cut between scene, a TV director named Tadao Ohno arrived, thinking this is nothing more than a publicity stunt. However, at midnight, Jinnai showed up, causing everybody to witness his appearance as he disappeared in the woods, which resulted in Conan, Kogoro and the others to race to the top floor and learns that Hayato Nanjo is dead, with a gunshot to the head. With the investigation by Juzo Megure is underway, Tadao Ohno (who wasn't around when Jinni was around) was taken up stairs and told them what happened, however he was believed to be Jinni as Miyuki thinks that this was payback for what happened to him three years ago.

Tadao revealed what happened three years ago; It seem that before he was a Former highly acclaimed film director. During a shooting of the fifth Jinni film, Hayato suggested using a young actor name Hiroyuki Kitano to perform a stunt involving a car since the stunt man never showed up. This however was a mistake as later the stunt went wrong, and Hiroyuki died when the car fell off the bridge and died, this resulted in Tadao being fired from the studio and ending up being a TV director instead. He even mentioned that the others blamed Hayato for the incident, even revealing that Hiroyuki was Satomi's lover, who she claimed that she never hated Hayato and knew that he was a young actor since she was also a young actor at the time before being Hayato's manager.

After Satomi's claim of meeting Jinni in the hallway, Conan began his own investigation and discovered the truth of how Hayato died, and the method used for it. Conan (via using Kogoro) then revealed that the person who killed Hayato was really Satomi and even exposing how she killed him while explain how she was there the moment Hayato was killed and was Jinni. While Satomi tried to deny the claim without any proof, Conan revealed that the proof was on the fax machine as one paper with the time on it is the exact time where she killed him as it was covered in blood. After being exposed, Satomi then revealed that she did it and her motive was the incident that happed three years ago and even revealed why she did it (which revealed him as a hidden villain in this episode)

It turns out that three years ago, Hiroyuki was offered the part to become the new Jinnai for the sixth film after the end of the fifth one. However, upon hearing that, Hayato decides to kill Hiroyuki by having him preform the stunt that killed him. She wanted to be learned more of the truth, so she became Hayato's manager and bid her time. It was until last month when she was driving him home while he was drunk, where he revealed that he caused Hiroyuki's death by revealing that he was the one who told the stunt driver not to come so that Hiroyuki would die and to make sure he died, he revealed a bolt that he had, also revealing that the bolt was actually from stunt car (to be more specific; it was the front axle bolt from one of the front wheels of the car) which explained that it wasn't Tadao fault.

She also revealed that she was the one who sent the death threat and wanted to use the media as her alibi of the murder of Hayato Nanjo. She also explained to Hayato that this kind of publicity would actually help his movie career, he was for it, not knowing that Satomi was planning to kill him.
