~ Cassie to Headless Freddy before he reveals his damaged state to her. |
Headless Freddy, also known as Prototype Freddy, is a minor antagonist in the Ruin DLC to Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach.
He is a damaged version of Glamrock Freddy with sharpened features and a missing head, who is now acting aggressive and hostile towards anyone that encounters him in the Fazer Blast area. It's currently unknown if he's a prototype of the base game's Glamrock Freddy, or if the base game Glamrock Freddy is the prototype.
Appearance[]
Headless Freddy's model is a modified version of Glamrock Freddy's. As such, he is a large orange bear animatronic with lighter paint in his chest and foot, as well as a blue lightning symbol painted on his chest and sharp nails of the same color. He wears spiked armbands and red accessories on his legs and shoulders. Headless Freddy also bears a close resemblance specifically to Glamrock Freddy's Shattered design, featuring the same bare claws taken from Montgomery Gator, the same missing pieces on his arms and remarkably similar withering on his chest.
Despite all this, Headless Freddy's design has several notable differences from both of the aforementioned models. His casing is discolored, having a more faded look. His head and neck are missing, leaving only a patch of exposed wires where they normally are. In place of a mouth, Headless Freddy expresses noise through his stomach hatch, which is now damaged in such a way that it resembles a gaping mouth with sharp teeth. There are several sharp metal shrapnel spikes piercing Freddy's body from the outside. And finally, several minor design features are altered to appear more aggressive and sharper, such as his armband spikes or his endoskeleton foot.
Headless Freddy's stomach hatch contains a compressed gift box, similar to the one used to dispense a novelty Faz-Watch at the beginning of Security Breach, although this box appears to be themed with Monty's colors instead of the orange and yellow used in the main game.
Biography[]
Origins[]
It is currently disputed by fans as to whether or not Headless Freddy is same animatronic that accompanied us throughout the events of Security Breach or a previously unseen prototype model, as indicated by the label on his right foot.
He is found damaged in Fazer Blast, bearing very close withering to the one Freddy receives after being disassembled (with the only significant difference being extra fragments in his chest that resemble teeth in a gaping mouth), possibly indicating he was the one attacked in the main game. He also has sharp endoskeleton claws that match the look of Freddy's claws after he is disassembled in Security Breach, indicating he received the same upgrade stolen from Monty.
If he is simply a prototype, it is unknown why or how he ended up in this situation. Some fans speculate that this earlier model might have been scrapped due to his aggressiveness and would have gone through a disassembly, in Fazbear Entertainment's attempts to get rid of him, thus explaining the damage. It is unknown how the prototype would have ended up in Fazer Blast, although it has been suggested by theorists that he might have wandered into the area and gotten stuck there after the Pizzaplex collapsed.
In Ruin, graffiti leading up to the Fazer Blast arena implies multiple people, likely mischievous teens, vandals and thrill-seekers, have encountered Headless Freddy while breaking into the abandoned area. His aggressive behavior has apparently earned him a reputation as a "Badbear" or a "Fazfiend", as some writings call him, with multiple graffiti drawings warning anyone who sees them about the broken machine and claiming "He doesn't see you".
Ruin[]
Throughout Ruin, the idea of Freddy missing his head is teased multiple times. His golden statue in the Pizzaplex's lobby has seemingly been pulled with wrapped chains by a forklift, with the head resting separately next to it (this is highlighted in the teaser image for the game, where the statue's body is shown in its proper place). Another statue of Freddy appears in the gondola ride showcasing Monty's origin story, with a whirling tornado severing the head from the body. Finally, that same statue is seen in the AR world when Cassie is traversing the server room, appearing next to a large CPU.
During the events of Ruin, Cassie finds herself in Fazer Blast, looking to deactivate the last security node keeping her friend trapped underground. On her way out, she encounters Freddy resting under a fallen wall and approaches him, initially believing him to be harmless. She is proven wrong when the animatronic emerges from the rubble, revealing itself to be missing a head, and roars at Cassie with its mouth-like chest. It chases Cassie throughout the wreckage, briefly loses track of her and emerges yet again, bursting through a wall and roaring once more. Cassie eventually finds herself backed against a wall, with both Freddy and an AR inhibitor in front of her. She's able to reach the inhibitor before Freddy, allowing her to use the V.A.N.N.I. mask she is in possession of to evade Freddy and escape through a nearby vent.
Although he is never seen after this point, he is referenced shortly after, with a Freddy plush in a party room having its head torn off.
Trivia[]
- Strangely, unlike most other animatronics in Ruin, Headless Freddy fully disappears when wearing the V.A.N.N.I. mask. If this is the same Freddy from Security Breach it is very likely, because Freddy is cut off from the main system in the base game, considering Freddy is rebooting back to his original programming.
- Another popular theory is Headless Freddy went booting in safe mode, thus disconnecting him from the AR World.
- Headless Freddy was based on unused shattered Freddy design in both promotional picture, and Disassemble Freddy comic style ending.
- However, this may because this Freddy is the redesigned Shattered Freddy, due to the fact that you can find a Freddy plush with its head torn off along with the other shattered animatronic plushies.
- Headless Freddy is able to detect Cassie's movements, while Cassie is not wearing her security mask.
- Headless Freddy kills Cassie by grabbing her neck and shoving her into his stomach hatch. Although this can be taken as him simply attempting to bite or eat Cassie, it has also been interpreted as him trying to mimic how he protected Gregory during the main game, but in a very twisted way.
- Headless Freddy's jaw-like stomach hatch is very similar to that of Nightmare Fredbear, Nightmare, and Twisted Freddy.
- Somewhat ironically given the main antagonist of Ruin, Headless Freddy resembles a Mimic from Dungeons and Dragons.
- Headless Freddy is the only animatronic in Ruin to be a Karma Houdini; Moon gets his comeuppance when Cassie forcefully merges him and Sun together to create Eclipse, Chica and Roxy are both scapegoats - with Chica being tragic and Roxy eventually being redeemed - and Monty is killed, presumably as retribution for his implied murdering of Glamrock Bonnie.
- Headless Freddy is so far the only version of Glamrock Freddy as of now to be an actual villain, while the other versions, the original from SB & the HW2 counterpart, never intended to attack the player and only doing so due to some unintentional circumstances.
- Despite his state matching that of Freddy's in the canon ending of Security Breach, many fans believe he is an entirely separate prototype model due to the "prototype" label on his foot and the unopened gift box in his chest.
- It is possible that Freddy's "prototype" label was simply a design chance to reveal the fact that he was a prototype (akin to the changes like the added port in the Daycare Attendant's head, Roxanne Wolf has a reason as to why her designed changed), expanding on his backstory and potentially explaining strange things about him in Security Breach. It has also been suggested by fans that the marking was always there, but only became visible in Ruin due to paint wearing off over time.
- Theorists have argued that, due to the different gift box in Headless Freddy's chest, Glamrock Freddy might dispense a variety of items through gift boxes in his stomach cavity, and not just the singular Faz-Watch Gregory receives in the game. These gift boxes would have to be stored in some form of hammer space, although many fans have been able to overlook this, as the gift box seen in the original game already seems to inexplicably disappear when Gregory crawls inside.
