NOTE: This article is mainly about Horatio Axbury, the canon character version of the Headless Horseman. In addition, this article has been compiled by gathering official sources that do not have direct links between them, since it is not possible to establish a definitive timeline due to inconsistent continuations between the Roblox events. |

~ Headless Horseman's Roblox description. |
Horatio Axbury, better known as the Headless Horseman, is the main antagonist of the 2024 Roblox platform-wide event The Haunt, ninth installment of the Hallow's Eve series.
Originally a noble horseman, he is the cursed Lord of the Axbury Manor, where he lures unsuspecting players under the pretense of hosting a "masquerade ball", only to trap them within and ultimately bring about their demise to avenge the loss of his head.
He was voiced by an unknown person in the teaser for The Haunt event.
Appearance[]
This Headless Horseman exudes a spectral menace, clad in a dark, medieval-style ensemble that blends knightly armor with ghostly elegance. His torso is protected by a metallic breastplate under a richly colored navy-blue coat, detailed with golden trim and reinforced shoulders, giving the impression of a long-deceased noble or cursed soldier. His arms and legs are encased in heavy, blackened armor, worn and matte, hinting at centuries of wear in the shadows. Most strikingly, he carries a flaming Jack-o'-lantern aloft in his right hand, its sinister grin glowing with malevolent fire, acting as both weapon and replacement for his missing head.
Personality[]
The Headless Horseman is usually seen as a quiet, asocial, and stoic individual. He does not seem to interact or even communicate with anyone except his butler. It is unknown whether he has always been like this or whether he became this way after he transformed into his current vengeful state. This also gives him a mysterious side, as even his real name was unknown to anyone except his butler, that is, until he revealed it in The Haunt event. He is also seen as a calculated presence rather than a mindless monster. Rather than attacking players directly, he lures them to his manor with a fake costume contest, then attacks them when they are not expecting it; it can be said that he is someone who likes to play it safe.
As for his motivations, the Headless Horseman is actually quite spiteful and sadistic, contrary to his personality traits. Although he lost his head due to a group of Noobs (who are hypothetically long dead/left Roblox), he is spiteful enough to take it out on innocent players.
Biography[]
Background[]
According to his toy's description, Horatio Axbury was a noble horseman from centuries ago. One Halloween, while he was trotting along a dark street, a group of Noobs collecting candy suddenly appeared and ran towards him. Due to this unexpected encounter, he couldn't stop in time and crashed into them. As a result of the collision, his pieces scattered everywhere. Although he respawned shortly after, his head was missing. After this, he became furious at all the Noobs and swore revenge on them all, turning into a cursed and vengeful spirit and gaining the name he is known by today: The Headless Horseman.
Although it is unknown for sure what happened after this until The Haunt event, it can be assumed that the Headless Horseman did not leave his manor until he made his revenge plan, and in the process, he spread his curse and cursed everything around the manor, including his butler.
The Haunt[]
Shortly before the events of The Haunt begin, the Headless Horseman sends out an invitation to each player, inviting them to his manor under the pretense of hosting a "masquerade ball"; his real intention is to trap and kill as many of them as possible, presumably to avenge his lost head.
On October 24, 2024, on the day the event begins, he prepares his butler and welcomes the guest players who want to participate in the event to his manor. The butler, who is thought to be unaware of his master's true nature, both guides them in accordance with his master's orders and informs them about the manor and the Headless Horseman. In one of these conversations, he also reveals the Headless Horseman's real name, Horatio Axbury, to the public. However, the Headless Horseman does not seem bothered by any of this, or at least he acts that way. Although he does not interact with the players in any way during the event, he plays his piano to appear friendly and kills time, waiting for the right moment to attack.
At the end of the event, when players find all the Skull Fragments and place them around the statue of the Headless Horseman, a portal opens. Players who pass through the portal are teleported to another location away from the manor. Moving forward a little, past the Haunted Mansion created by Shedletsky, they find an arena with five mannequins around it. Shortly after opening the mannequins, the Headless Horseman descends from the sky with an evil laugh, and begins attacking the players. Players dress the mannequins to open the exit while attacking the Headless Horseman, who in turn throws exploding pumpkins and poison-filled bottles at them. However, despite all his efforts, the Headless Horseman is defeated; he laughs one last time, before disappearing into the sky.
Although it is unknown for sure what happened to the Headless Horseman after his defeat, it was stated that with his disappearance, the manor was released from his curse.

Action Collection Series 3[]
The Headless Horseman got his own toy in the 3rd series of Roblox toys released in September 2017. The toy has an almost identical appearance to the mainstream version. Players can get the catalog item "Heedless Horse" by using the virtual product code that comes with the toy. Additionally, this toy reveals the Headless Horseman's backstory as Horatio Axbury via its description.
Reception[]
While the Headless Horseman bundle’s return to the catalog with The Haunt was met with the usual acclaim, his in-game version was not. The Headless Horseman/Horatio Axbury boss fight was lynched by players for being "simple and easy" (though the boss fight's music received mostly positive reviews). Additionally, a small minority were unhappy that the Headless Horseman had a "real name", which they felt was unnecessary and irrelevant; as they argue that it overshadows the mysterious side of the character.
Powers & Abilities[]
- Explosive Pumpkins: The Headless Horseman can create multiple explosive pumpkins at once, with no specific limitations.
- Toxigenesis/Poison Creation: Similar to his ability to create explosive pumpkins, the Headless Horseman can also create glass vials filled with a martyr's poison, which affect a much larger area than the pumpkins.
- Curse Inducement: As understood from the description of Axbury Manor, the Headless Horseman constantly casts some sort of "curse" around him. He can curse anything in his vicinity and give them supernatural properties, just as he did to his manor and its surroundings. It is also possible that his curse affects living things (as his butler is thought to be a vampire) too.
- Immortality: The Headless Horseman has lived for centuries, as mentioned in his toy's description, indicating that he is immortal. Additionally, the fact that he lives without a head also indicates that he doesn't need any necessities, meaning that his immortality is more than just biological immortality.
- Teleportation: Although he was seen playing the piano in his manor when the players fall for his trap, his sudden appearance right after placing the puppets shows that the he can teleport.
- Levitation: After the Headless Horseman's defeat, he was seen levitating into the sky, although it is unknown whether he was the one controlling it or if it was done by an external force.
- Master Pianist: Unexpectedly, the Headless Horseman can play piano very well.
- Horsemanship: As his name suggests, the Headless Horseman is said to be an experienced horse rider.

Notes[]
- ↑ The Headless Horseman from the Hallow's Eve 2017 event is thought to be not the same person as Horatio Axbury, as he is said to have lost his head in a battle, in addition to having a different head. However, due to inconsistent continuity between Roblox events, it is currently unknown which one is canon.
Trivia[]
- Obviously, the Headless Horseman is based off the European folklore figure of the same name.
- The description of Headless Horseman in the Roblox catalog is a direct reference to a quote from the 1999 horror film Sleepy Hollow.
- Just like his brother, Yorick, he is named after the character of the same name from William Shakespeare's Hamlet. Additionally, the name "Horatio" means "Timekeeper".
- However, in Hamlet, Horatio and Yorick weren't brothers, they were simply acquaintances.
- Meanwhile, his last name, "Axbury", most likely comes from the English word "Asbury", which means "manor, fortified place".
- The song that the Headless Horseman plays on the piano is Peter Lea-Cox's Funeral March, originally used in the popular cartoon series SpongeBob SquarePants.
- Ironically, despite being a horseman, he was never depicted with a horse, not even as a catalog item or in any trailers.
- However, there is a gear named "Heedless Horse" in Roblox catalog that comes with the official toy of Headless Horseman, but the canonity of this is currently unknown.
- In contrast, the description of his toy confirms that he used to have a horse, but he has never been seen with one in any of his appearances, regardless.
- Coincidentally, a similar situation applies to the Horseless Headless Horseman from the popular multiplayer first-person shooter game Team Fortress 2.
- The theme song for the Headless Horseman from The Haunt event is called Horsemen's Wrath, but for an unknown reason the singular "Horseman" is replaced with the plural "Horsemen". It is unknown whether this was a mistake or on purpose.
- While the Headless Horseman's toy is depicted wearing a hat and wielding an axe, the version in mainstream media does not use either item.
- Although The Haunt event is called a "costume contest" by Roblox, Headless Horseman calls it a "masquerade ball" instead.
- The Headless Horseman's catalog bundle is one of the most desired catalog items among the Roblox community, along with Korblox Deathspeaker.
- There is a room in his manor called the "Hall of Villains", which contains statues of villains from both official and community-made Roblox games (such as Aymor, Rabid Rabbit, Scary Larry, etc.). This suggests that he is aware of the existence of other Roblox games and their characters, and most likely knows that he is a game character himself.
- Furthermore, this is proven by the fact that there are portals to other games on the upstairs of his manor.
