NOTE: This article is about the incarnation of Heat Wave from My Adventures With Superman. The mainstream version can be found here: Heat Wave (DC).
“
Heat Wave: Worry about...? Are you kidding me?! He's the one taking us all! My crew, members of the Gazzo family, bagmen, pickpockets—every single person who got tech weapons from that Livewire lady is gone! We were trying to lift a ride to get out of town before he got us, too! Superman: I'm not "getting" anyone. Why would you think that? Heat Wave: I SAW you do it! We were knocking over the pawn shop on 25th, and then there was this blur, and half my crew was gone! Who else could move that fast? But I'm not going down easy.
Rory, better known as Heat Wave, is a supporting antagonist in Season 1 and a supporting character in Season 2 of the 2023 superhero cartoon series My Adventures With Superman. She is a petty criminal who received flamethrower gauntlets from Livewire, who is later forcibly recruited as a member of Task Force X.
Heat Wave was among the many criminals to acquire high-tech weaponry from Leslie Willis/Livewire, receiving a pair of flamethrower gauntlets. However, after obtaining these, she would become aware of a series of kidnappings targeting anyone who received technology from Leslie, and began making plans to escape from Metropolis with her gang.
Season 1[]
"You Will Believe a Man Can Lie"[]
Heat Wave and her gang attempt to rob a pawn shop using their new weapons; however, before they can succeed in doing so, they are attacked by a figure moving at super-speed. The figure is able to abduct Heat Wave's driver, while she and the rest of her gang manage to flee. Later, Heat Wave and her remaining gang attempt to rob McGuinness Luxe Garage, only to run into Superman, who has been detained by Lois Lane for an interview.
Heat Wave's gang is easily defeated by the two, while she struggles to get her gauntlets to activate. Unable to attack Superman, Heat Wave immediately surrenders herself and begs Superman not to kidnap her like the others, to his and Lois' confusion. Superman and Lois subsequently question the defeated Heat Wave, who explains that everyone from members of the Gazzo crime family to bagmen and pickpockets are disappearing, which she believes to be the work of Superman. Despite Superman's insistence that he isn't responsible, she declares that she won't go easily; finally activating her gantlets to attack Superman and escape.
Superman leaves Lois behind at the Daily Planet to pursue Heat Wave by himself, while Slade Wilson, the real kidnapper, pursues Heat Wave to reclaim the technology in her possession. Slade chases Heat Wave into a construction zone, who still believes she is being pursued by Superman. When the real Superman arrives, Heat Wave attacks him. Slade observes their battle from afar and receives permission to engage from his superiors, The General and Amanda Waller, in order to seize the opportunity to eliminate Superman. Heat Wave manages to overpower Superman with her flames and bears down on him, only to be frozen solid by Slade, using the same technology as Intergang's freeze ray.
"Zero Day"[]
After Slade's battle with Superman, Heat Wave was taken into Task Force X's custody like the other recipients of Leslie's technology. She would eventually be freed from her cell at the same time as Livewire, Silver Banshee and Rough House, being electrocuted into submission by the General using a shock collar. The General informs her and Task Force X's other captives that they will have the opportunity to repay their debts to society, before being informed by Dr. Anthony Ivo that it is moving day. That night, after Mist tricks Superman into trying to free Task Force X's captives, Heat Wave joins the other villains in ambushing him.
Heat Wave and the villains gradually overwhelm Superman; who manages to recover himself enough to briefly overpower his attackers, only to be brought down by Dr. Ivo. Heat Wave and the other villains flee with the captured Superman on Task Force X's plane, and she is later returned to her cell. Thanks to Livewire's newly developed electrokinetic powers—along with Amanda Waller's covert sabotage—she and the other villains are able to escape from their cells and reclaim their equipment. Heat Wave and the others battle against Task Force X's guards, before Livewire uses her electricity to empower Parasite, allowing all of them to escape from Task Force X's facility.

Trivia[]
Several key differences exist between this incarnation of Heat Wave and most previous versions:
She is the first incarnation of Heat Wave to be female, as all previous incarnations have been male. Similarly, she is one of the few incarnations of Heat Wave to possess hair; as most other versions are depicted as having shaved their hair, or burned it off.
Her flame weaponry is derived from flamethrower gauntlets, rather than a heat gun.
She does not appear to possess any form of pyromania, only using her flame weapons to commit crimes.
She is not affiliated with the Rogues, instead having her own gang. Additionally, she has no affiliation with the Flash, instead being an opponent of Superman.
It is unclear if Heat Wave's full name is Mick Rory like her comic counterpart, as she is only seen being called Rory. It is also unclear if Rory is her first or last name.
She is never referred to as Heat Wave outside of the credits, although Lois describes her technology as a "heat wave" weapon.
Heat Wave being defeated by a freeze ray is a possible reference to her comic counterpart's rivalry with Captain Cold.
