“ | My fellow humans have never treated me with love, and I punish them for it. But I wouldn't have them suffer. Then, like any animal, I think the world would be poorer with their extinction. I would just see to it that they couldn't harm anyone else. | „ |
~ Hector's views on humans. |
“ | No. I've been mad. This is different. I think I've gone sane. | „ |
~ Hector, telling Lenore about his current sanity. |
Hector is a major character in the Netflix animated dark fantasy series Castlevania, which is based on the video game franchise of the same name. He served as one of the secondary antagonists (alongside Carmilla and Isaac) of season two, and a major character of the third and final seasons. He is loosely based off of the character of the same name from the video games.
Hector was one of the two Devil Forgemasters, alongside Isaac, that served as one of Dracula's lieutenants during his war against humanity. Unlike Isaac, while Hector does have hatred towards mankind, he genuinely believes that he is "culling" humanity, believing that they're flawed beings and believes that their genocide is not a solution.
He was voiced by Theo James in the English dub and by Takahiro Sakurai in the Japanese dub.
Biography[]
Hector was a gullible human man who, as a Devil Forgemaster, had the power to reanimate corpses and summon demons. Alongside the Forgemaster Isaac, Hector was one of the two human generals who served Dracula by building him an unholy army. However, the vampire general Carmilla took advantage of Hector's naivety and convinced him to betray their master. Carmilla, however, betrayed Hector upon the death of Dracula, taking him prisoner in her castle in Styria.
Lenore, one of three vampires that ruled Styria alongside Carmilla as the Council of Sisters, gaslighted and seduced the imprisoned Hector. Using her trickery, Lenore was able to manipulate Hector into forming a slave pact with her, meaning he could never betray or disobey her. From there, the Council of Sisters tasked Hector with forging an army for them that they could use to conquer the planet.
However, Hector managed to betray them using Isaac's invasion at Styria at his advantage, imprisoning Lenore while Isaac was facing Carmilla. After Carmilla's suicide, Isaac re-encountered Hector, whom he decided to forgive, calling vengeance "something for children".
