Hector Hammond is a major antagonist in the DC Universe, serving as a major antagonist in the Green Lantern franchise.

He is a petty criminal who discovered a radioactive meteorite capable of evolving all those who come in contact with it, and attempted to use it for personal profit. After being defeated by Green Lantern Hal Jordan, he would deliberately expose himself to the meteorite to gain powers for himself; receiving vast psychic abilities at the cost of becoming grossly deformed and immobilized. He would attempt to use his new abilities to get revenge on Jordan, although later stories would portray him as a more tragic and sympathetic character and occasional anti-hero. He is one of Hal Jordan's first archenemies (alongside Sinestro), and has appeared as an enemy towards various other heroes, such as Alan Scott, Kyle Rayner, Superman and the Justice League.

Biography[]

Hector Hammond was nothing more than a petty criminal. While he was laying low in the California Hill of Nebraska, he discovered a glowing meteor (simply called the "Meteorite") that had been evolving nearby plants into a form that would not exist for over 100,000 years. The other half of the meteorite landed in North America years ago and evolved the local apes into the scientific race that would found Gorilla City. Hector took the meteorite back to his hideout, and then decided to captured four prominent scientists and exposed them to the meteor. Being exposed to the meteorite the scientists evolved into future-men who he forced to create fantastic inventions. This allowed Hector to take credit for the work and become a celebrity. Eventually, Hector decided to expose himself to the rays of the meteor, evolving himself into a future-man.

Powers and Abilities[]

Being exposed to the Meteorite, Hector was granted psychic powers such as telepathy, telekinesis, and superhuman intellect. However, Hector eventually became paralyzed, making him unable to move, so he uses his telekinesis to move himself while on his chair. Hector was also gifted (or rather cursed) with immortality from being exposed to the meteorite.
