Heidar is the leader of the Rimewind Cult and main villain of the Coldsnap set of Magic: the Gathering. He is a powerful cryomancer, a wizard with the power to freeze any object. Fearing the Thaw, an event that would end the Ice Age on Dominaria, Heidar planned to undo this event and bring a new and worse version of the Ice Age.
History[]
After the Thaw was brought to Heidar's attention, he sent his agents to find anything on his home continent of Terisiare that could help him achieve his goal, to prevent it and keep Dominaria in the Ice Age. They discovered a horde of Phyrexians frozen inside the Ronom Glacier. Heidar wanted to use them to aid his plans, but they were asleep and only certain incantations would wake them up. From an alliance with the zombie giant Haakon, the incantations were found as well as the knowledge vaults of the necromancer Lim-Dûl. Unfortunately for him, he needed elementalists who could aid him. In order to get them, he forged another alliance with Garza Zol, the vampire plague queen and the ruler of Krov. In return, Heidar would help Garza destroy the partnership between the Balduvians, Kjeldorans, and Yavimayans. Heidar awoke the Phyrexians and gave them magic-infused ice crystals. Once the Balduvians invaded his land, he unleashed the Phyrexians upon them and the Balduvians were slaughtered. They escaped Rimewind and terrorized the rest of the continent. As a result, the Kjeldorans sought revenge for their fallen allies, but Haakon and his knights held them off. Unbeknownst to Heidar, the Phyrexian's magic was corrupting him and turning him insane. As a result, he started attacking both allies and enemies with little awareness. Garza Zol, seeing the danger Heidar and his danger his machines brought, murdered Heidar. Without their leader, the Phyrexians ran loose, but were slain by the Kjeldorans and the Yavimayans. They also killed the rest of the cultists and returned the Thaw to its normal course.
