Heinrich Kemmler also known as The Lichemaster is a powerful necromancer from Warhammer Fantasy. He wanders the world with his undead legion and his personal champion Krell (Warhammer) in search of raw power and knowledge. He has notably struck a deal with the Chaos Gods and started his quest for power in search of immortality. He first appeared in the tabletop game where there are two "adventure books" focusing on him and his story. He also makes an appearance as a playable character, and one of the 3 secondary antagonists in the video game Total War: Warhammer and its sequels as a legendary lord of the Vampire Counts.
Biography[]
Heinrich Kemmler realized at a young age the limitations his mortality gave him and sought a way to circumvent this, finding a solution in necromantic magic. He would gather any tomes, books or other forms of knowledge related to necromancy to study and store, eventually leading to him assembling a library which would be the biggest gathering of necromantic knowledge in the world. He quickly became adept at raising armies of undead and battled against rival necromancers and the vampires of the midnight aristocracy. Eventually however he was beaten by a group of his rivals, having both his psyche and his body broken.
He traveled across the Grey Mountains as a confused old hermit and begging for a living. He would eventually be drawn to finding a legendary weapon hidden somewhere in the tombs of that lay in the mountains. This would eventually have him stumble across the tomb of an ancient warrior called Krell. Krell was a warrior of Chaos in life and had been resurrected long ago to serve under Nagash. After Krell's awakening Kemmler would strike a bargain with the Chaos Gods who restored his sanity and gave back all the power Kemmler had lost.
Together with Krell he would raid and destroy the nations around the Grey Mountains and would gain great infamy. During the events of the End Times Kemmler was in a pact with the forces of Chaos and would fight in their name. However, an ancient necromancer and the disciple of Nagash, Arkhan the Black would be sent out to deal with Kemmler and his forces. This eventually led to a wizard's duel between Arkhan and Kemmler, in which Kemmler was finally killed.
