~ Mohiam, explaining the concept of the Kwisatz Haderach to Paul Atreides. |
Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam was a major antagonist in the Dune Saga, serving as a major antagonist in the 1965 Frank Herbert novel Dune (and its film adaptations) and one of the three main antagonists (alongside Scytale and Edric) of the 1969 sequel, Dune: Messiah.
She was portrayed by Charlotte Rampling in the 2021 film, Siân Phillips in the 1984 film and by Zuzana Geislerová in the 2000/2003 miniseries.
A member of the Bene Gesserit sisterhood, Mohiam was the truthsayer of the Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV in the year 10,191 AG. Learning that the Spacing Guild desired the death of Paul Atreides she travelled to Castle Caladan to asses Paul for herself. Despite the threat of being stabbed with Mohiam's gom jabbar and the pain from the box Mohiam had him put his hand in, Paul passed her test. After his performance in the test she was willing to concede that Paul might indeed be the Kwisatz Haderach.
After Paul and his Freman allies defeated Shaddam, the Harkonnen, and the Guild Mohiam tried to salvage the situation and exercise control over Paul, but he was able to force her to stop using her powers against him.
