|~ After Normas asks her what's Carrie gonna wear to the prom.|
Helen Shyres is a minor antagonist in Stephehn King's novel Carrie, as well as all of its adaptations. She is a member of the Mortimer Snerds in the novel and all films. She is one of the many bullies who torment Carrie White, and ultimately met her fate during the Black Prom.
Helen first appears in the novel throwing tampons at Carrie when she received her period causing her to receive a detention. She helped Sue with the decorations and she had no objection to Tommy taking Carrie to the Prom. However, Sue was suspicious that she had some knowledge of the prank, but didn't confront her about it. She attended the prom in which the incident occurred. When Carrie is drenched in blood, Helen bursts into tears. She presumably was electrocuted or burned at the prom. Her mother Georgette Shyres died when Chamberlain was getting destroyed by Carrie
Helen appears in the 1976 film, where she was portrayed by Edie McClurg.
Helen is first seen playing volleyball with the other girls and when Carrie's team loses she runs past Carrie laughing at her because she can't play sports, she then takes part in the period incident throwing tampons at Carrie and laughing hysterically, she then receives a detention from Miss Collins. She then appears with Norma Watson talking about Carrie going to the prom and making fun of her about what she was going to wear. At the prom, she and Ruth Gogan were serving drinks at the prom when the mayhem started. When the mayhem started she and Ruth are standing on a table but both of them fall at the same time. When Carrie leaves the burning prom Helen's body is bent over a table and Ruth is attending to it but it was too late. Helen's body burned with the rest of the students.
In this remake, like Norma Watson she is friendlier and sympathize with Carrie, same if she had bullied her at first, she voted for Carrie to be the prom queen, the night of the prom she and Norma complimented Carrie about her dress, she also slapped Kenny when him and Tina laugh at Carrie cover in pig blood after noticing the bucket that Chris took for the prank, but when she tried to get Carrie out of her trance only to be pushed by Miss Desjardins, who also tried to help Carrie, but like some of the students she is electrocuted while trying to escape.
Helen does not appear in the film but her name is shown on the king and queen prom ballot. She was nominated prom queen but lost to Carrie. During the mayhem, she presumably was burned or electrocuted during the prom.
