Helmeppo (One Piece)

Helmeppo (ヘルメッポ, Herumeppo) is a supporting character in the One Piece franchise. Serving as the supporting antagonist of the Romance Dawn Arc. He is the son of Captain Morgan who abused of his status in Shells Town.

He was voiced by Kōichi Nagano in Japanese, Brian Zimmerman in the Odex dub, Sean Schemmel in the 4Kids dub and Troy Baker until episode 68 and Mike McFarland afterwards in the Funimation dub.

Biography[]

Helmeppo, the spoiled son of Marine Captain Morgan, lived a life of luxury and abused his father's authority to bully others. When his pet wolf attacked a girl named Rika, it was killed by Roronoa Zoro, whom Helmeppo had arrested and starved as punishment. Despite promising Zoro freedom if he survived a month without food, Helmeppo broke his word and planned to execute him after only nine days.

Helmeppo’s cruelty drew the attention of Monkey D. Luffy and Koby, who came to Shells Town to recruit Zoro. When Luffy saw Helmeppo mistreat Rika and mock Zoro, he punched him in anger. Humiliated, Helmeppo ran to his father, only to be struck down and dismissed. Later, Luffy captured Helmeppo to help find Zoro’s swords and used him as a shield against the Marines. When Luffy defeated Morgan, Helmeppo attempted to take Koby hostage but was quickly knocked out.

Following his father's downfall, Helmeppo was demoted to a chore boy in the Marines, much to his frustration, especially since he had to work alongside Koby. Despite his resentment, he gradually began to change. When he and Koby escorted Morgan during a prisoner transfer, Morgan escaped and took Helmeppo hostage. Realizing he no longer wanted to follow his corrupt father, Helmeppo escaped and swam back to the Marines.

Impressed by their humility and willingness to change, Vice Admiral Garp took both Helmeppo and Koby to Marine Headquarters for training. Under Garp and the swordsman Bogard, they endured intense training and began their journey to become real Marines.
