Henry Bayshore is an overarching antagonist in the Dead by Daylight franchise having been responsible for the origin of the Deathslinger.
Biography[]
Henry Bayshore was a powerful industrialist and owner of the United West Rail company during the late 19th century. Known for his wealth and ruthless business practices, Bayshore played a pivotal role in shaping the tragic origin of Caleb Quinn, who would later become the killer known as The Deathslinger.
Bayshore first encountered Caleb when the young inventor’s mechanical genius caught his attention. Caleb, the son of Irish immigrants, had developed a series of innovative devices, including a gun that could fire railroad spikes and a steam-powered tunneling drill. Bayshore hired him under the guise of mentorship and opportunity—but secretly began stealing Caleb’s patents, selling them to competitors and profiting immensely without giving Caleb credit or compensation.
When Caleb discovered the betrayal, rage consumed him. He stormed into Bayshore’s office, smashed his face, and fired a railroad spike into his gut using his own invention. Bayshore survived the attack, and Caleb was sentenced to 15 years in Hellshire Penitentiary, a private prison notorious for its brutality.
Years later, Bayshore’s cruelty resurfaced. He purchased Hellshire Penitentiary, turning it into a profitable enterprise. Upon learning this, Caleb returned to the prison and found Bayshore cowering in the warden’s office. In a final act of vengeance, Caleb brutally assaulted him, leaving Bayshore bloodied and broken.
Though never seen in-game, Bayshore’s legacy lingers through items like Bayshore’s Cigar and Bayshore’s Gold Tooth, and through the inscription on Caleb’s weapon: “Death to Bayshore.” He represents the archetype of the exploitative capitalist—one who consumes genius and leaves behind ruin. His story is a cautionary tale of greed, betrayal, and the monstrous consequences of stolen legacy.
