Eileen and Simon are the secondary antagonists of the Horrid Henry franchise.
They are the hot-tempered and corruptive parents of Horrid Henry and Perfect Peter. However, they are also infamous due to their poor parenting skills and are implied to be part of the reason Henry is the horrid boy he is.
Mum is voiced by Tamsin Heatley in animated series and portrayed by Siobhan Hayes in live-action film, and Simon is voiced by Wayne Forester in animated series (who also voices Jacob Crow from the TimeSplitters franchise, the Pet Buster from Puppy in My Pocket: Adventures in Pocketville, and Gloomnivore from Dragon Quest XI, and portrayed by Mathew Horne in live-action film.
Personalities[]
Mum and Simon are known for being abusive, manipulative, neglectful, toxic, very strict and borderline unfair towards Henry, as well as controlling of him. They are shown to punish Henry all the time for his behaviour, even for things he didn't do. They never do this to his younger brother Peter, as he is a golden child in their eyes. This would cause Henry to become the horrid boy that he is.
Despite punishing Henry all the time, they barely (if ever) solve the reason on why he is horrid in the first place and rather influence his behaviour, even pretending that he isn't their son whenever they are in public and often focus on his horrid behaviour and not his well-being. Whenever they punish Henry, they will usually ban or ground him from certain things, such as watching TV, pocket money, loud noise, sweets, hanging out with his friends, sleepovers, and the computer. In "Horrid Henry's Horrid Revenge", they had taken all the stuff out of Henry's room because they thought he spilled the paint on the floor even though it was clearly Peter who did it.
Mum is also infamously known among viewers for being worse than Dad, as she shows favouritism by hugging, kissing and coddling Peter, even calling him endearing pet names such as 'sweetie pie', 'darling', 'sugar plum', 'bunny hop', 'pumpkin', 'poppet', and 'peterkins', but never calls Henry any of that. In the episode "Happy Birthday Peter", she cheers and claps when Colin the Clown makes a magic trick for Henry to "disappear", much to Margaret and Ralph's disgust. She had also gotten her husband in trouble in one episode. In "Horrid Henry's Fairy Dance", she planned to publicly humiliate Henry after Peter took pictures of him in a fairy costume.
They are also constantly in denial over their children, as they believe Henry always does the bad things and lies but never Peter, one instance would be in "Horrid Henry, Where's Fluffy?" when they demanded Henry to stop "accusing the neighbours" despite him telling the truth and what really happened to Fluffy.
While at first glance it might be hard to qualify them as villains because they are strict and conforming parents who hate Henry's bad antics, later seasons show them continuing to excessively scold Henry for small reasons despite Henry toning down his horridness and not doing anything wrong.
In spite of that, Mum and Dad aren't really evil and do care for Henry on occasions, such as in "Horrid Henry and the Perfect Plant" where Mum rushed in the living room (where Henry was sleeping) to make sure he was alright when he had woken up from a nightmare. Dad is also shown to treat Henry a lot better in the later seasons. They are also shown to punish Peter on some occasions, even though it doesn’t excuse their behaviour a majority of the time.
Trivia[]
- Mum's name has been never mentioned in the series unlike her husband's name who was revealed to be Simon. but in the movie, her name is revealed to be Ecstatic Eileen.
- They are far less controversial in books and season 1 due to Henry being more horrid than he is in the animated series, their strictness towards him is far more justified and fair.
- Dad was also referred to as "Dodgy Dad" by Henry in one episode. Silly Simon however is his childhood nickname, which it seems that he was not the one who gave himself the name, as he didn't like it.
