The unnamed Mother and Simon, better known as Mum and Dad are the secondary antagonists of the Horrid Henry franchise.
They are the parents of Horrid Henry and Perfect Peter. However, they are also infamous due to their poor parenting skills and are practically the reason on why Henry is the horrid boy he is known as today.
Mum is voiced by Tamsin Heatley in animated series and portrayed by Siobhan Hayes in live-action film, and Dad is voiced by Wayne Forester in animated series (who also voices Jacob Crow from the TimeSplitters franchise, the Pet Buster from Puppy in My Pocket: Adventures in Pocketville, and Gloomnivore from Dragon Quest XI, and portrayed by Mathew Horne in live-action film.
Personalities[]
Mum and Dad are known for being abusive, neglectful, toxic, and hypocritical towards Henry, as well as controlling of him. They are shown to punish Henry all the time for his behavior, even for things he didn't do. They never do this to his younger brother Peter, as he is a golden child in their eyes. This would cause Henry to become the horrid boy that he is remembered as.
Despite punishing Henry all the time, they never solve the reason on why he is horrid in the first place and rather influence his behavior, even pretending that he isn't their son whenever they are in public and often focus on his horrid behavior and not his well-being. Whenever they punish Henry, they will usually ban him from certain things, such as watching TV, pocket money, loud noise, sweets, hanging out with his friends, sleepovers, and the computer. In "Horrid Henry's Horrid Revenge", they had taken all the stuff out of Henry's room because they thought he spilled the paint on the floor even though it was Peter who did it.
Mum is also infamously known among viewers for being worse than Dad, as she calls Peter by innocent-sounding names, such as 'sweetie pie', 'darling', 'sugar plum', 'bunny hop', 'pumpkin', 'poppet', and 'peterkins', but never calls Henry any of that. In the episode "Happy Birthday Peter", she was glad that Colin the Clown was going to make Henry disappear, much to Margaret and Ralph's disgust. She had also gotten her husband in trouble in one episode.
In spite of that, Mum and Dad are not always bad as sometimes they do care for Henry, such as when Mum made sure he was alright when he had woken up from a nightmare. Dad is also shown to treat Henry a lot better in the later seasons. They are also shown to punish Peter on some occasions.
Trivia[]
- They are known among viewers for being two of the worst parents in British television history.
- Mum's name has been never mentioned in the series unlike her husband's name who was revealed to be Simon.
- Dad was also referred to as "Dodgy Dad" by Henry in one episode. Silly Simon however is his childhood nickname, which it seems that he was not the one who gave himself the name, as he seemingly didn't like it.
