Herman is a major antagonist in Season 7 of the TV series 9-1-1, serving as the main antagonist of the episodes "Step Nine" and "All Fall Down".
He is a man whose grandson ran with the cartel and ended up killed in self-defense by Amir, leading to a grudge against and later Bobby for interfering.
He was portrayed by Tony Amendola.
Biography[]
He fathered one son who went on to have a son of his own named Miguel who Herman raised after his son died through unknown means. Despite Herman showing him love, Miguel fell on a bad path by becoming affiliated with the cartel. Regardless, Herman continued to be in his life.
Step Nine[]
He gave Bobby and Amir a ride through the desert, seemingly out of good will. Along the way, he contacted his associates and spoke to them in Spanish but Amir was fluent and quickly alerts Bobby that Herman is taking them to the cartel. Mildly surprised, Herman confirms this and reveals the gangster Amir killed was his grandson. He held them at knifepoint but Bobby turned it back and stabbed him, though non-fatally. Herman was thrown out of the car by Amir, who told Bobby to drive. Although Bobby wanted to help him because of his job as a Firefighter. However, Amir stated the cartel would likely help him and he was left on the road.
All Fall Down[]
Herman is revealed to have survived his injuries and was found by the feds who promptly arrested him after treating him. He was able to secure a deal for himself, by becoming a cooperating witness against the cartel. However, Herman was secretly exploiting them by using his contacts in the cartel to track down Amir and Bobby, finding that both of them live in Los Angeles.
After finding the Nash residence, Herman had his goons set ablaze with Bobby and his wife Athena inside. Fortunately, Bobby was able to get himself and his wife LAPD Sergeant Athena Grant-Nash out of the house, but he required hospitalization for his injuries. Upon being treated, Athena began an investigation into the arson. She initially suspected Amir, due to his terse history with Bobby and confronted him. Amir voiced innocence and was willing to go for questioning though the cartel arrived to find him. It became apparent to Athena and Amir that they were the ones who set the fire after tracking Amir and Bobby down.
Amir promptly surrendered himself while being taken away with Athena following. Amir was taken to a warehouse, where he came face to face with Herman. When seeing him smile, Herman was annoyed and explained what happened to him after the last meeting. He also revealed he was exploiting both the cartel and Feds for his own benefit, and how he desires to get both Amir and Bobby for what they did to him and his family. He voiced his initial plans to make Amir suffers by taking someone he cared about but agreed with him on how he was too late after looking into his background, discovering his dead wife. Herman even remarked that they were kindred spirits in that they both had nothing or no one to rely on, while Amir was disgusted by his twisted feeling of empathy. Amir also brought up how the Feds were not going to take kindly to Herman and his goons supposedly killing Bobby, a fire fighter captain, but Herman was not bothered if there was no way to link it back to him and because of Bobby leaving him to die.
Herman soon struck Amir for his defiance and his grandson's death before he grabbed a knife to torture him. As he moved to stab him, Herman offered him last words as a show of mercy, but Amir told him to go to Hell. Herman told him to go first, but soon Athena revealed herself while holding one of the goons at gun point. Herman questioned her identity, and Athena revealed herself to be Mrs. Bobby Nash before she dropped a lighter on a trail of gasoline that she poured. With the warehouse bursting into flames, Herman stood horrified, but this distraction allowed Amir to get up and headbutt him. He was able to recover quickly and ran away but was arrested by the police (who were called by Athena earlier) outside of the building. Herman is last seen loaded up in a squad car.
It could be presumed that Herman was sent to prison for the rest of his life for his crimes of false cooperation, arson, abduction, and double counts of attempted murder.
