~ Hermann Führ |
Hermann Führ, also known by his pen name Fritz Weindler, is the titular main antagonist of Naoki Urasawa's light novel Another Monster, written by the investigator Werner Weber. He is an author and a product of Franz Bonaparta's reading circle. At some point, he was influenced by Johan Liebert's work and became a serial killer just like him, along with Gustav Kottman as his accomplice.
Biography[]
Hermann Führ was a government official serving under the regime of Czechoslovakia, before defecting back to Germany according to Jaromír Lipský. When Bonaparta wrote the book Das Ruhenheim, Hermann took up his pen name Fritz Weindler and wrote the book Dorn of the Darkness. In the very same year, Peter Čapek fled to Germany and tries to dig up any information about Hermann, the pursue did not stop for three years, in which Hermann fakes his death after seemingly getting hit by a car.
Dorn of the Darkness was stated to be one of Johan's favorite books, but Gustav Kottman was also a fan of Hermann's story and frequently sent him fan letters. In 1995, Kottman began killing people for four years, until he was arrested by the authorities in Mayerling, Austria. But Hermann saved him from comprehension and took him in.
Exploiting his obsession with Dorn of the Darkness, Hermann gave Kottman a mission just like the main character in his story. In November 2000, Hermann shot and killed his colleague Eugen Molke, while Kottman killed three people in the hospital where Molke worked, before committing suicide. This kickstarted the events of the story, in which investigator Werner Weber start investigating about Johan, hoping to find out the connection between the duo.
During a phone call with Hermann, Weber realizes the reason why Hermann killed Molke in the first place: it was because he was the last person who knew of Hermann's existence. For some reasons, he returned to Red Rose Mansion, only to find Johan setting it ablaze, while murmuring about him with Johan in the end of the world. After that, Hermann was freed and went back into picturing his books. Only if Eugen Molke was disappeared, that is.
The last thing that Hermann said to Weber was that his hotel room was next to his, before they both mysteriously vanished. What the authorities found in the room were Weber's report, Hermann's manuscript of The Awakening Monster, and the sketch of a man who looks like Johan.
