Heron Mills are the secondary antagonists of the Netflix crime drama Ozark.
They are powerful heroine distributors with great influence over the Ozarks for multiple generations. Their influence went unchallenged until the arrival of Marty and Wendy Byrde in the region.
History[]
When the Brydes began to use their connections to the Navarro Cartel to undermine the authority of their leader Jacob Snell, Heron mills struck back, threatening the Bryde family, and tightening their grip on the local community through any means necessary. Eventually Marty managed to broker a deal with Heron Mills to profit both them and the cartel via building a casino on their land. Their leader Jacob Snell liked these terms and aligned himself with them, however his wife Darlene Snell did not.
Darlene sabotaged the alliance with the Navarro Cartel by poisoning their drug supply, and then by murdering her husband Jacob and seizing control for herself. Her reckless actions were temporarily halted when Marty managed to quell her anger by giving her the adopted son she always wanted. However, eventually Darlene went back to causing trouble, as she began growing heroine again despite the risk it posed to the public perception of the casino.
After Marty and Wendy attempted to talk Darlene down from her actions and failed, the successor to Navarro Javier Elizonndro assassinated Darlene. Ruth Langmore inherited Heron Mills due to her cousin Wyatt's marriage to Darlene shortly before their deaths. Ruth sold one last batch of their heroine before her demise. It can be assumed that Heron Mills ceased to function afterward.
