|~ Hien about Kato|
He was voiced by Kirk Baily.
Hien was injured badly injured in Shanghai and nearly killed by the Seraphic Radiance. Hien's heart stopped but Kato got him medical attention and had him revived. It was said there was no hope for Hien at first but Kato took Hien to get experimental surgery and cybernetic implants that saved his life and completely restored him. After being revived Hien was given training as part of the Japanese Military's new initiative called 'the Mutant Apes' which were to be made up of reanimated undead super-soldiers. Kato was working on bringing others completely back from death rather than from just death's door and in this quest he would come to create Ouka. Hien is the first to greet Ouka when she is brought to life and agrees to help her if she can prove her skill as a fighter to him. After being beaten Hien's loyalty is re-enforced and he becomes just as devoted to helping Ouka as he is to serving Kato.
Skills and Abilities
Like Oaka and Raiden, Hein is substantially tougher than most people, owed in part to his modifications and in part thanks to his high-grade armor, which s both light enough to allow free movement and tough enough to offer redistribution of the force of a high-impact grenade with relative ease. Hien has several high-impact grenades himself. Raiden's unique skill among the three is use of his hand scythe, which is sharp and high-quality enough to pierce tank hauls with a few strokes.
Hien is extremely loyal to Kato. While Hien was nowhere as near to death at the time of the Seraphic Radiance's attack as Raiden was, he still is certain he would have died eventually if not for Kato and thus considers himself indebted to Kato for saving his life. Hien is more socially withdrawn that Raiden. He takes to lone work better than his team-mates but welcomes the company. Hien has a slight sadistic streak and almost taunts Yuri about dying if he is grazed by Astaroth's poisoned nails as well as daring Ouka to test her safety in the training chamber, however there is no real malice behind either of these statements just a twinge of preoccupation with the potential pain of any given situation.
- Hien's code-name was after Japans fighter jet the Kawasaki Ki-61 AKA "Hien" jet.
- Both Hien and Raiden are named after Japanese fighter jets.
