High Priest Jirai is a major antagonist in Fatal Fury: Devil Street of Horror who appears for the first half of the manga.

Appearance[]

Jirai is a bald humanoid with an eye marking on his forehead.

Biography[]

When Andy Bogard entered Devil Street and fought through several thugs, Jirai arrives and demonstrates surprise that Andy's executions are greater than rumors he heard. He then proceeds to tell him that he has no chance of escaping Devil Street alive. Andy immediately realizes that Jirai had been involved with the murder of his (Andy's) master and the secret the master was protecting was something to do with Geese Howard who turned out to be still alive.

Jirai proceeds to laugh at his misery. When Terry Bogard stumbles across the bodies of several martial artists, Jirai proceeds to explain to Terry that they were from across the world and perished before they can reach the gate.

Terry contemplates trying to get to Devil street as fast as he can when the carcasses of the martial artists come to life and attack him with one of the victims being Hom Chuk, a super-heavyweight Muay Thai Champion whose punches can cut through anything.

When Terry tries to attack Chuk, Jirai taunts him about losing to the fallen Mauy Thai artist. After managing to ensnare Chuk's leg wth his arm, Terry proceeds to strike him with a "Sunny Punch" and incapicitating him.

When Terry demands entry into Devil Street, Jirai reveals that the martial arts tournament there was a hoax to bait martial artists into coming and calls them interlopers who must die. Jirai then orders the zombiefied martial artists to kill Terry here and now.

Fortunately Joe Higashi, Mai, and Bear arrive to put a stop to the threat the undead martial artists posed. Jirai tells them that if they wish to know what was going on, they must reach the golden temple in Devel Street and that Andy knew the truth regarding Devil Street which is occupied by real demons.

As a result of his failure, Chuk is strruck by Jirai's "Bewitching Path Pressure Point" technique to draw out his entire power, which will get him killed in ten minutes which Jirai believes will still be enough to kill Terry and company.

Despite his efforts, Terry and company manage to overpower Chuk. When Terry demands to know where his brother is, Jirai tells him that he must go to the golden temple to find him.

When Terry and company split up to investigate the city, Jirai watches with Geese as they do so. Jirai watches as Geese asks Andy how many will be able to reach the temple alive and that the Martial Emperor revived him and is desiring the strongest army in the world. The Martial Emperor also holds military might over the world.

After Terry and company deal with some goons threatening an innocent child, Jirai overhears Geese mock Andy by claiming that his family and friends will not save him and that the martial emperor is unstoppable.

Following the demise of Liuo Himmler, Terry feels a commotion that convinces him that something happen to his brother. Jirai watches when Geese vows to defeat Terry and company this time.

When Terry and company advance onto Labyrinth Street, Geese urges Jirai to head there as he is in charge with the priest believing that they "Won't have a prayer of escaping" and proceeds to use Andy as a host for a demonic spirit in a process that proves to be painful in the process.

As Terry and company navigate the labyrinth, Jirai uses illusionary magic to appear giant-sized to the heroes as he welcomes them as he traps them inside a spell. When Terry finds his companions missing, Jirai proceeds to taunt him that his friends are in his "illusion hell" and intends to best Terry as he is his team's central pillar.

As Terry vows to crush evil with his fist, Jirai sends several mooks to deal with Terry. After Terry beats them, he is confronted by a possessed Andy who proceeds to attack him while Jirai proceeds to mock him about how he cannot break the curse on his brother.

Jirai is also not above ordering the possessed Andy to strangle a child when he intervenes. However, Terry's late master, Tan Mu-Lu reminds him not to rely on his own power and all matter is within the same dimension. All things also share the same power and Terry is told to open his mind and take the entire universe within him.

Following this advice, an empowered Terry shocks Jirai who refused to believe that he cannot have equal power to the Martial Emperor as he moves in to save Andy and the boy by draining the demonic energy. Jirai breaks down watching as Labyrinth Street is torn apart by the energies, but still confident in winning.

This confidence is debunked when Terry manages to exocize the demonic spirit from Andy who proceeds to smash a bottom portion of the pillar from under Jirai's feet, leading to him falling.

Surrounded by Terry and company, Jirai summons an illusion to tell the hstory of the Martial Emperor's rise to power, the annihilation of an entire country's army, and his subsequent slumber until he attains enough energy from other martial artists as part of his world conquest plan. After telling the heroes this history, Jirai goes shirtless as he gloats about a wall guarded by a hundred demons and engages them in an attempt to stop their progress.

He proceeds to wallop the heroes with strength strong as steel. However, Andy opts to take Jirai on personally until he manages to get the upper hand on the demonic priest. Unwilling to give up, Jirai proceeds to amplify his power. Terry proceeds to take him on and fatally wound him by crashing him into the gound.

However, Jirai tells him with his dying words reminds him of the hundred demons waiting for him at the wall.
