You are mongrels, inferior life-forms. Your very existence is an affront to our purity.
~ The Highbreed's vow to "purify" the universe
Highbreeds were the very first race in the universe. All species hence, other than pure-blooded Highbreeds, are nothing but mongrels! Hideous abominations of nature! Especially humans.
~ Reinrassig III explaining the Highbreed's beliefs

The Highbreed are the main antagonists of the first two seasons of Ben 10: Alien Force. They are a powerful militaristic and racist alien species claiming to be the most ancient and supreme race in the universe, all other lifeforms being nothing more than a mutation. In truth, while they do believe themselves to be superior to all other life, their obsession with genetic purity has led to inbreeding, which has left them sterile. Faced with extinction, they decided to take all other life with them into oblivion.

Their destruction of a planet follows the same formula: they send a pod with Highbreed officers and warriors to an inhabited world. These then abduct citizens from the local dominant lifeform and infect them with parasites that turn them into DNAlien slaves. Using them as an expendable workforce, they have them construct a massive gateway to the Highbreed homeworld while keeping themselves hidden with cloaking technology, which then allows them to send their armada to the target planet.

Ben Tennyson ultimately ended the conflict by using his Omnitrix to shuffle the DNA of all Highbreed with that of other alien species, saving them from extinction.

Appearance[]

Highbreed are towering, plant-like humanoid species with exaggerated and segmented torso, long slender arms that reach up to their ankles, small flower-like face surrounded by spiky "crown" which joins into a V-shaped pattern on their neck, as well as two pairs of webbed foldable wings. Their skin is solid white, forearms and calves are black and have spots in different shades of grey, wings are orange on the inside part, while face is purple and lacks features like mouth, nose/nostrils and ears, having from four to seven entirely red triangular eyes without pupils or irises. They also have two pairs of eyes in the chest. Their black hands have three claws with one being a thumb, whereas their feet have two C-shaped claws. Chest can open up, revealing purple and red organs, as well as root-like tentacles.

The higher-ranking military members such as Highbreed Commander possess characteristic dark grayish-cyan-lime-green upper wings and chest, with exaggerated shoulders pads split into three plates. A pattern on their neck is much longer, separating darker skin from regular white on their heads.

The elderly Highbreed present at the council are much larger, having enlarged bellies and light grayish yellow skin with grey spots. Their wings are much longer, extending into a torn "robe" and covering their legs. Some members have two smaller eyes in addition to three larger ones on their faces. They seem to lack standard specimens' stomach plates, suggesting inability to reveal their tentacles.

Highbreed Supreme possesses the same build, color and wings as the rest of the council, albeit he lacks spots; however, his stomach has permanently exposed organs, head has an orange "collar", ironically lacking a spiked crown on his head. Similar to Highbreed Commander, he has protruding plates, but unlike him, they appear to emerge from his neck and not shoulders, ending with black, grey-spotted spikes. His face is grey on top and purple at the bottom, forming a nose-like pattern. He has four larger eyes and two smaller ones. Oddly enough, he seems to regain spikes on the head, while his stomach no longer exposes organs upon having his DNA repaired by the Omnitrix.

After aforementioned DNA repair on universal scale by the Omnitrix, Highbreed come in various color schemes.

Biography[]

Ben 10: Alien Force[]

The Highbreed first appear in Ben 10 Returns: Part 1, when a DNAlien went into the lair and inform the Highbreed Commander that for several months, somebody has been leaking into the operations to the authorities. The DNAlien used a holographic projector to show a image of Max Tennyson, who is the one responsible for all the trouble. The Highbreed Commander orders that Max must be destroyed to avoid anymore interferences with their plans.

In Ben 10 Returns: Part 2, The Highbreed commander returns and confront Ben Tennyson (as Humungousaur), Gwen Tennyson and Kevin Levin for trespassing in his ship, Gwen and Kevin try to defend themselves against the Highbreed, but proven to be too strong for them to fight, so Humungousaur tell them to leave to the ship while he keeps the Highbreed busy. Gwen refuse to let him fight the Highbreed by himself, but Humungousaur tell Kevin to take her and leave the ship immediately.

After Gwen and Kevin escaped, Humungousaur engage a fight with the Highbreed, but the Highbreed proven too be strong and powerful for him to fight as well. The Highbreed tells him that since he had ruined their plans to keep the ship hidden, he will have to find a new hideout by sterilize the area by destroying all life within five miles. The Highbreed grab Humungousaur by the neck, only for him to bites the Highbreed's hand, causing him to released Humungousaur from his grip. Now believing that Humungousaur had "infested him", he angerly throws Humungousaur off his ship. Lucky, Gwen catches him with her magic to soften his fall.

In Max Out, The Highbreed plan to use an egg machine to create more Xenocytes to make more DNAliens to create an army, but the plan failed when Max Tennyson use the Null Void Projector as a grenade to vaporize the Highbreed (who was in charge of the machine) along with the egg machine. However, there were still more DNAliens out there and they won't got up neither the Highbreed.

In Alone Together, the trio find themselves fighting a single Highbreed commander. As he tries to escape through a teleporter, Kevin damages it and it teleports Ben and the Highbreed to a remote desert planet called Turrawuste, and must trek through the desert to find an old teleporter pod. Although they start off as enemies, they learn to work together as they both understand that they need each other to survive. While resting at a camp for the night, the Highbreed tells Ben his real name is "Reinrassig III" (although Ben calls him Reiny) and reveals to him that the Highbreed's primary goal is to wipe out all life in the universe, as they see all life as inferior. While Ben rests, Reiny seemingly strikes at him, but is actually defending Ben from a large bug that was about to attack him, which causes Reiny to lose a part of his arm. Ben transforms into Swampfire and uses his DNA to give Reiny a new arm. After reaching the pod, Reiny tells Ben that he is exiling himself on Turrawuste, as he believes having a Methanosian arm is a contamination and his purity was ruined. Dissapointed by the fact that Reiny hasn't changed, Ben leaves him behind and returns home.

In Darkstar Rising, DarkStar breaks into the DNAlien hideout and attacks the Highbreed Lord by absorbing some of the Highbreed's power to make the Highbreed listen to what he needs to say. DarkStar made a deal with the Highbreed, which they set up a plan to get Ben's team arrested by Magister Prior Gilhil for impersonation plumbers. At night, The Highbreed Lord breaks into Kevin's gurus and intent to kill them. Highbreed proves to be too strong for Gwen and Kevin similar to the Highbreed Commander. Ben transforms to Humungousaur and throws the Highbreed outside. Suddenly, Magister Prior Gilhil arrives to put Ben and his team under arrest for impersonation plumbers again. However, DarkStar came to absorb their life-force (including the Highbreed despite the promise he made easier) and captured them, except for Gwen who manages to escape. Darkstar takes his captured prisoners to his hideout, and tries to absorb all of their life-force . Gwen brought an army of DNAliens in which Darkstar was unable to drain all of them because of fatigue. After Ben and his team defeated Darkstar, they realize the Highbreed lord was taken by the DNAliens.

Simian is captured by a Highbreed commander at the end of Birds of a Feather after a deal gone wrong.

In War of the Worlds: Part 1, the Highbreed's war officially starts by destroying Galvan Prime. Ben and his team travel to an abandoned military base in Los Soledad where the Highbreed have been building a hyperspace jump gate to travel to any point in the universe almost instantly. Despite having access to master control, Ben fails at destroying the jump gate, allowing the Highbreed fleet to go to Earth.

In War of the Worlds: Part 2, Ben and his team travel through the jump gate and find themselves on the Highbreed home planet, Augstaka, where they find the Highbreed Councilors as well as the Highbreed Supreme. After closer examination, Azmuth reveals that because of their inbreeding to preserve their purity, they have become sterile and extra susceptible to disease. All Highbreed in the universe are revealed to be the last generation of their species and are nearing extinction. The Highbreed Supreme reveals that the true reason why the Highbreed want to eliminate all life in the universe is because they do not comprehend the idea that other species can exist without them. As a last-ditch effort to save their species, Ben uses the genetic repair function on the Omnitrix to fix the Highbreed's DNA by giving them samples of DNA found in the Omnitrix. Because of the jump gates, 99.99% of the Highbreed are healthy once again, but because of the fact that they all have the DNA of other species, the Highbreed Supreme starts panicking and suggests that they all kill themselves. Reiny returns and shows the Councilors his Methanosian arm, proving that the DNA saved them and they have a second chance at life. Reiny is elected as the new Highbreed Supreme and the rest of the Highbreed return home.

In Don't Fear the Repo, Judge Domstol has a Highbreed Bailiff with him. He is visibly different from the other Highbreed in the series because of the DNA repair function.

In If All Else Fails, a Highbreed sleeper agent wakes up from hibernation and finds out the war is over. Believing the war was lost, he wreaks havoc before Reiny appears once again and tells him that they are now at peace and have no reason to fight. After realizing the damage he had done, the sleeper agent sacrifices himself to save a nuclear power plant from being destroyed.

Ben 10: Ultimate Alien[]

The Highbreed make no physical appearance in the third series and they never return since Ben 10: Alien Force.

In Fame, A Highbreed briefly appear on a footage on TV fighting Ben Tennyson as Humungousaur.

In The Ultimate Enemy: Part 2, a Highbreed briefly appear in one of Ben Tennyson's flashbacks.

Ben 10: Omniverse[]

Like in Ben 10: Ultimate Alien, the Highbreed are no longer a threat.

A single Highbreed makes an appearance in the fourth series. Like in Alien Force, Judge Domstol has a different Highbreed Bailiff. Unlike the Bailiff in Alien Force, this one does not have the color scheme of a Highbreed after being genetically repaired.

Powers and Abilities[]

Alien plant physiology: Highbreed have evolved from floral life, having several plant-like attributes like flower head or root-like tentacles. As such, they feed through photosynthesis, a process where sunlight and water are converted into a motion energy.

  • High intelligence: Highbreed are extremely intelligent and advanced as a species and as a society, having access to organic technology, instant travel between solar systems through Hyperspace Jump Gates, Weather Towers capable of altering nearby climate, a communication devices allowing for information spread on a galactic scale, as well as machinery able to instantaneously wipe out a species on a planetary scale, which was later stolen by Forever Knights to unsuccessfully wipe out all alien life on Earth. They were even able to disable the defensive system of Galvan Prime, leaving it helpless for being destroyed by Highbreed Fleet.
  • Superhuman strength: Highbreed are physically one of the strongest species in Ben 10 universe, enabling them to overpower almost any creature in unarmed combat with relative ease. They were shown to easily swing around Humungousaur and send him flying with their punches, leaving him stuck in the wall on one occasion. Highbreed have demonstrated ability to smash concrete as if it was glass, even when weakened by excessive life-force siphoning by Darkstar. When fighting physically inferior Swampfire, the Highbreed Commander was able to obliterate his head with one blow, albeit it did not leave any lasting damage to Methanosian due to his regenerative ability. It should also be noted that throughout Alien Force, all Highbreed were dying to their poor immune system, meaning that they are likely stronger in their prime.
  • Superhuman durability: Highbreed possess durability matching their physical might, allowing them to trade blows with creatures of similar size and strength. Despite being plants, they are impervious to fire and high temperatures, which was shown when Swampfire shot Highbreed Commander with his methane flames in the face, and when Augmented Highbreed was standing in fire upon encountering Carl and Sandra Tennysons in Grounded. They can withstand great impacts, such as when weakened Highbreed was thrown through the roof by Humungousaur as large distance hard enough to make the ground crack. They receive little harm from piercing damage, which was demonstrated when Humungousaur bit Highbreed in the hand during their initial encounter; a moment later, Highbreed grabbed Vaxasaurian by the neck and threw him out of the ship.
  • Superhuman jumping: Atasians are capable of jumping at large distances to quickly close the gap between their enemies, as seen when a Highbreed leaped across his ship to Kevin after sending him flying in Ben 10 Returns: Part 2.
  • Flight: Despite their high body mass, Highbreed possess fully functional wings that allow them to fly at high speeds and attitudes. This allows them to tactically retreat if they were to find themselves overwhelmed by their opponents.
  • Claw bullet projection: While Highbreed were not observed to use their claws as a slashing weapons, they are able to shoot them in a similar manner to how Petrosapiens shoot crystal shards. This allows them to attack opponents from ranged distance if they prove themselves too quick or too agile for physical engagement. Fingers are regrown instantly after firing, potentially allowing Highbreed to fire indefinitely. Using a combination of Big Chill's ice and his claw bullets, Highbreed was able to kill the Dravek, a massive subterranean worm living on Terrawuste, tearing him to pieces.

Weaknesses[]

  • Arid climate: Because their home planet is dominated by the subzero climate, Highbreed cannot handle hot climates for extended periods of time. If they were to find themselves on a deserted planet without any source of water, their bodies will begin to dehydrate, making movement difficult for them.
  • Sterility (formerly): The Highbreed's greatest weaknesses used to be the lack of resistance to diseases and sterility, which brought them to the verge of extinction. This has been caused by generations of inbreeding with the intention of keeping their blood "pure". However, it is no longer an issue after the DNA repair by the Omnitrix.

Trivia[]

  • The way that Highbreed's name pronounced can sound quite similar to "hybrid".
  • They seem to be inspired in both the Nazi and the Ku Klux Klan, two real-life racial supermacist groups that have a hatred for non-caucasian ethnies..
