“ | Ohohohoho... You're Tailtiu's other brat, aren't you? Am I to presume you've come to seek my head for your mommy's pathetic demise? | „ |
~ Hilda battling Arthur. |
“ | Ahh, that takes me back! It's been so long since I had as much fun as tormenting that eyesore you call "mama"... Ahahaha! | „ |
~ Hilda reminiscing over her torture of Tailtiu or Ethniu to Tine or Linda. |
Hilda (ヒルダ) is a major antagonist in the Super Nintendo video game Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War. A relative of the Velthomer nobility of Grannvale, Hilda married Duke Bloom of Friege, giving birth to Ishtar and Ishtore. When the Grannvale Empire occupied Miletos, House Friege was granted rule over the region, and Hilda became its brutal queen.
She is voiced by Liz Morey in English and Yuko Sanpei in Japanese.
Appearance[]
Hilda is a middle aged woman with long parted black hair and red lipstick. She wears a long purple gown with long purple gloves, yellow belt, and wears a black and red cloak. Her Genealogy of the Holy War portrait appears to have wrinkles, though like several other characters, her artwork appears to make her look younger as she lacks the lines on her face.
Personality[]
Hilda is a abusive, cruel, and haughty tyrant. A scheming social climber, Hilda was insistent on Ishtar's marriage to Julius due to his status as prince of the Grannvale Empire, despite his corruption. On the other hand, she despised her sister-in-law Tailtiu or Ethina for their alleged treasonous actions to Grannvale. She enjoyed mentally breaking Tailtiu or Ethina and took great pride in causing their deaths, later taunting her children about driving their mother to the grave.
Though not a member of the Loptr Church, Hilda fully supported capturing young children to sacrifice to Loptous seemingly out of sadism, despite her family's opposition. Hilda frequently and covertly arranged child hunts and sacrifices in Miletos. She also regularly participated in the massacres herself, and considered the murders of escaped children a "lesson" to Mileto's people.
Fire Emblem Heroes reveals that at the very least, she had genuine respect for her family members of the Friege branch, such as Reptor, which makes her torture against Tailtiu or Ethnia based on partially her own sadism and partially on her genuine anger of betrayal. Her anger against Seliph for decimating her family members are genuine, but it only serves to increase her natural sadism against the innocents. If her Bond Level is maxed, the Summoner can find her attempting to get drunk within the bar trying to forget the pain of her dwindling family and destroyed pride. While these may humanize her, it should be noted that these do not eclipse her other horrendous evil acts and mindset.
Biography[]
A descendant of House Fala, Hilda married Duke Bloom, a member of House Friege, some time during the reign of Emperor Arvis. When Bloom imprisoned his younger sister Tailtiu or Ethnia and her daughter Tine or Linda for the former's "crimes" against her family, Hilda brutally abused them physically and mentally for years. Ultimately, Hilda's cruelty took its toll on Tailtiu or Ethnia, and she eventually died, to Hilda's pleasure.
As Queen of Miletos, Hilda took pride in being a tyrant, authorizing the kidnapping of children for ritual sacrificing to Loptous. However, her reign of terror ended with the arrival of Seliph's liberation army. She was defeated at Chronos Castle, but retreated to Grannvale, where she was entrusted with the defense of Freige Castle. This stronghold was the last obstacle between the liberation army and Julius at Belhalla, and Hilda perished in the ensuing battle, avenging her many victims.

Fire Emblem Thracia 776[]
In the midquel, it is revealed that Hilda's husband, Blume, as well as their children, opposed Hilda's stance on the child hunts. A boss character, Gustav is mentioned to have been an advisor to Blume and Hilda.
Fire Emblem Heroes[]
Hilda was made available to summoners on April 19, 2022, as the sixty-sixth Grand Hero Battle. Her outfit is based on her design from Genealogy of the Holy War.

Trivia[]
- Hilda is the first female villain in the Fire Emblem franchise to be a devious and wholly unsympathetic character whom acts as a willingly evil conspirator in her own right. She would serve as an inspiration to the small number of unsympathetic female villains that includes Petrine and Sonia Reed. After a long absence, the Hilda archetype returned in Three Houses with fake Cornelia Arnim.
- Hilda shares the same first name as Hilda from Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
- A minor villain in the first generation, Lamia the infernal, looks like a younger version of Hilda: possessing the same hairstyle and face, as well as a similar love of cruelty. If there is a relation between these two characters, it goes unstated.
