Doctor Hippocrates Noah is the main antagonist of the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Our Man Bashir."
He was portrayed by Avery Brooks, who also played Joran Dax when he possessed Benjamin Sisko in "Facets."
Biography[]
Doctor Hippocrates Noah was a mad scientist who functioned as the villain of a secret agent holo-program that Julian Bashir was running, with Garak along for the ride out of curiosity. However, the holo-program became serious when a runabout containing several senior officers exploded on approaching Deep Space 9. The Ops crew was only partially successful in beaming the officers clear, resulting in the station computer storing their physical forms in the holosuite computer. This resulted in the program using Captain Sisko as the basis for Noah's physical appearance. Since these were their real forms, Bashir had to make sure none of them were killed and also couldn't shut down the program or let anyone in or out of the holosuite in case their physical patterns were erased.
Bashir carried along with the narrative of the holo-program as he, Garak, and Colonel Anastasia Komanov (who had the appearance of Major Kira) investigated Noah's activities, which included the abduction of sixty of the world's greatest artisans as well as the disappearance of Doctor Honey Bear (who had the appearance of Jadzia Dax). The trio ended up being abducted by Noah's right-hand man Duchamps (who had the appearance of Worf), and taken to his secret base at the top of Mount Everest.
With Bashir posing as a geologist named Patrick Merriweather, Noah outlined his scheme to the group. He believed the world to be decadent, corrupt, and beyond saving; he had brought the best minds of the human race to his hideaway, intending them to be the last survivors of humanity to repopulate the world on his "island." He had set up lasers at key points that would drill into the earth's crust and release magma, initially causing earthquakes but eventually causing the land masses to shrink and the oceans to rise, wiping out most of the human race with only his chosen few surviving on the last remaining piece of land. He then revealed he knew Bashir's true identity, having allied with his old enemy, the assassin Falcon (who had the appearance of Chief O'Brien).
Noah had Bashir and Garak chained up in a cave which, when the first lasers fired, would be filled with molten lava. He kept Anastasia for breeding purposes. The pair escaped and confronted Noah and his entourage. However, needing to keep the program running and everyone safe for another two minutes while Odo and Eddington readied the transporters, Bashir announced that he had no intention of killing Noah or stopping his scheme and had accepted the only logical course of action was to join him. Noah was confused and suspected a trick, refusing to proceed with his plan. In response, Bashir activated the lasers himself, destroying most of the world.
Noah admitted he hadn't actually expected to win and tried to order Bashir killed anyway. At that moment, however, he and the rest of the characters were beamed off the holodeck, with Sisko's mind reunited with his physical pattern so Noah effectively ceased to exist.
