Hiram McDaniels is a major character on the absurdist paranormal fiction podcast Welcome to Night Vale. He is primarily an antagonist, but acts as a neutral character in some episodes.

He is a large five-headed dragon, with each head having individual sentience, and attempted to kill Mayor Cardinal and forcefully take mayoral office in Night Vale with the help of the Faceless Old Woman. Each of his heads have malicious intent, save for his violet head, who worked against his other heads to stop their scheme.

He was voiced and portrayed in live shows by Jackson Publick.

Biography[]

Early history[]

Hiram McDaniels was a literal five-headed dragon, towering at around eighteen feet and weighing about 3,000 pounds, who resided in the American desert community of Night Vale. He was the brother of fellow five-headed dragon Hadassah McDaniels. Hiram also kept a blog proposing changes to Night Vale's municipal policies, which he would enforce if he were mayor.

Year One[]

In 2012, Hiram was on the run from the Night Vale Secret Police for charges of insurance fraud, speeding, and manufacturing an obviously fake driver's license. When he was captured in 2013, he announced he would be running for Night Vale mayoral office and received endorsement from community radio host Cecil Palmer.

Despite elections not being for another three years, incumbent mayor Pamela Winchell announced her early retirement (which she repeatedly confirmed was of her own volition) soon after this, and the early election campaign began.

Year Two[]

Mere weeks after Hiram's announcement, the Faceless Old Woman who secretly lives in your home announced her own candidacy for mayoral office, as did billionaire Marcus Vanston. During his campaign leading up to the election in 2014, Hiram repeatedly slandered his opponents, who were more than happy to slander him back. On the day of the election, the pulses in Hidden Gorge declared that Dana Cardinal would be elected as mayor, as opposed to any of the running candidates.

Year Three[]

Furious at the election's outcome, the Faceless Old Woman and Hiram teamed up to kill Mayor Cardinal and take mayoral office by force. Meanwhile, Hiram's violet head objected to this and secretly bought up Lot 37, an artifact that somehow controlled Cecil's body. When Hiram's other four heads and the Faceless Old Woman attacked the mayor with feral antiques and a sand golem, the violet head used Lot 37 to make Cecil protect the mayor, which made Cecil paranoid.

Most of Hiram and the Faceless Old Woman made their final attempt to kill Mayor Cardinal at the opening of the new Old Night Vale Opera House, and the violet head finally admitted to Cecil how he had manipulated him. After he returned control of his body to him, Hiram's violet head attacked the rest of his body, and Hiram as a whole was arrested, while the Faceless Old Woman took the opportunity to flee.
