~ Hirofumi Yoshida explaining his orders to Denji, Chapter 103. |
Hirofumi Yoshida is the secondary antagonist of manga/anime Chainsaw Man. He appears as a supporting protagonist in Part 1 and as the secondary antagonist of Part 2.
An enigmatic and ominous bodyguard hired by Makima to protect Denji from numerous assassins and conceal his identity, Hirofumi Yoshida is a private Devil Hunter who works for Public Safety. He has formed a contract with Octopus Devil, granting him power to summon massive tentacles out of ink clouds, as well as teleport people with a flick of finger. Using those powers, he sometimes participates in battles against hostile Devils, eventually being ordered to kidnap both Denji and Asa after they go against Public Safety's orders, where they would dissected. His current whereabouts are unknown, as Pochita has erased Octopus Devil out of existence, likely stripping Yoshida out of his power.
Appearance[]
Hirofumi Yoshida is handsome youth of tall and muscular build, with medium-length black hair, murky black eyes, a mole on his chin and eight piercings on his left ear. On duty, he wears a white jacket with black shirt underneath, blue jeans and white shoes. As a student, he is dressed in a typical black Gakuran school uniform with golden buttons and white shoes.
Personality[]
In a stark contrast to Denji's eccentric and volatile personality, Hirofumi Yoshida is collected, civil, affable, calm and stoic, taking his job as a Devil Hunter seriously. He is almost perpetually smiling to show his confident and arrogant demeanour. He rarely resorts to violence when not required and will often peacefully explain things behind the table, treating his allies to a dinner in cafe. He is sometimes shown to be shocked by some surprising events, such as when Power rammed a car into Denji or when Denji ate a cake with his bare hands. He seems to have no sexual interest in anyone, having shot down Asa's attempt to become his girlfriend.
Beneath the surface of polite and civil man, Hirofumi is extremely violent, ruthless and sadistic, still maintaining his soft smile while viciously beating someone to death or mocking others for their impotence, creating eerie contrast between his civil and battle personality. He starts out as polite when informing Denji about not transforming to Chainsaw Man unless he wants to anger Public Safety, but gradually becomes more and more explicit with his threats. He remains loyal to said organization, kidnapping Denji when he eventually went against their orders, not caring that Chainsaw Church burned Denji's house down, murdered his pets and tried to kill his younger sister, with Yoshida immediately disappearing when the said attack took place. After said kidnapping, he was fully aware that Denji would be dissected alive and conscious, and his only reaction was that of amused smile.
Overall, vast majority of information on Hirofumi Yoshida remains ambiguous so far. He possesses knowledge about Pochita's power and wonders if Chainsaw Man had capability of consuming Death Devil, and can recognize Fami on sight before their first onscreen interaction, referring to her by her real name. He often justifies bumping into Denji in most random places as mere coincidences, and denies that the evil nature of Public Safety.
