| ~ Hayashi's infamous line in the English dub of the original Yakuza |
Hiroshi Hayashi is a supporting antagonist in the Yakuza series. In both of his games, he only has one appearance, which is the boss fight against him. He is first introduced in the original Yakuza and its remake, and also appears in Yakuza 2 and its remake.
He is voiced by Shun Sugata. In the English dub of the original Yakuza, he was voiced by Peter Lurie, who also voiced Koji Shindo in the same game, Vulcan Raven in Metal Gear Solid, Paxton Fettel in F.E.A.R., Kidomaru in Naruto, Green Goblin in the 2005 Ultimate Spider-Man video game, Nosferatu Zodd in Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage, and Viceroy Calares in Code Geass.
Appearance[]
Hiroshi Hayashi has a head shaped like a tic-tac with his hair in a punch perm. He wears a dark grey suit with a green tie in the first game, and a plain black suit in the second.
Personality[]
Hayashi is a blunt man who makes it obvious who he respects (people like Ryuji and Kiryu) and who he hates (people like Tetsuo Nikaido). He is a man with some form of honor.
Biography[]
During the events of Yakuza, Hayashi and a team of minions meet Kazuma Kiryu at Millennium Tower bar Ares. Hayashi, despite being there to kill Kiryu, shows respect for the man and patiently allowing Kiryu to take a phone call while speaking with him. When Kiryu refuses to give him Haruka, Hayashi tells his men to attack Kiryu. Despite putting up a legitimate fight, he is defeated by Kiryu.
Sometime after the events of the first game, Hayashi's name was struck from the Omi roster for unknown reasons. Afterwards, Hayashi was recruited by Ryuji Goda into the Go-Ryu Clan, where his legitimately honorable personality was given chance to flourish.
Hayashi would get a chance to assist Ryuji when he and an eight-man unit were sent ordered to attack the transformer room in the Millenium Tower, which is now being used as The Florist of Sai's new headquarters. After Kiryu and Kaoru Sayama defeat his men, Hayashi unmasks himself and tells Kiryu about his arrival with the Go-Ryu Clan. Kiryu and Hayashi have a one-on-one rematch. In the midst of the fight, Hayashi pulls two pipes off the wall and wields them like kali sticks. Despite this, he is once again defeated by Kiryu. Just to show how honorable he is, he compliments Kiryu and passes out.
Trivia[]
- In Yakuza Kiwami and its 2017 sequel Yakuza Kiwami 2, Hayashi reuses the Kenpo-based moveset of Shigeki Baba from Yakuza 5, but with Baba's unused gliding spearhand strike that was later added to the moveset in Yakuza 0 for the Bed of Styx coliseum fighter Tenkensai Nijo.
- However, the spearhand strike animation was edited to resemble more of a lunge punch in Kiwami 2, for reasons unknown.
- Hayashi's kali sticks moveset is a mixture of reused Kiwami 1 Lau Ka Long's dual swords attacks, in addition to a few unique attacks for Hayashi.
- His kali sticks moveset gets reused for "Cane Man" in the 2018 spinoff Judgment, with the addition of a unique "Mortal Attack" and still shares his reused version of Takumi Someya's taunt animation from Yakuza 6 with his other weapon movesets.
- Hiroshi Hayashi also appears in the non-canon spin-off Yakuza: Dead Souls as a boss named Itsuki Prototype.
