Hisako Yakumi is a major antagonist of A Certain Magical Index: New Testament, serving as the overarching antagonist of the Freshmen Arc and the main antagonist of the Agitate Halation Arc.
She is a member of Academy City's Board of Directors who specializes in the medical field. She was brainwashed by Yuiitsu Kihara into have the same intellectual curiosity as hers, which leads her to develop the Agitate Halation Project to enter the realm of Hyouka Kazakiri, Aiwass, and beyond.
Appearance[]
Hisako appears as a woman in her thirties despite her actual age being 70. She has long, curled brown hair that reaches below her shoulder blades and also fades into a light pinkish color at the ends. She normally wears a white lab coat over a lavender sweater and also wears a red mini-skirt as well as black stockings which are kept up with a garter belt.
Personality[]
Hisako's actual personality prior to being brainwashed by Yuiitsu is unknown. However, she is shown to be indifferent towards human lives, treating them as expendable if they aren't useful to her. If they irritated her, she wouldn't hesitate to kill them but if they prove to be useful or if she liked them enough, Hisako miraculously save them. She also has the tendency to drag the pronunciation of her words. Her goal in research is not immortality or cures for diseases but rather the "high score."
Due to the intellectual curiosity implanted in her, Hisako is rather cold-hearted and manipulative, willing to sacrifice anything or anyone to achieve her goals. After hiring a group of thugs to kill Maika Tsuchimikado, she had a destroyer agent kill them all in order to avoid loose ends and contemplated killing the destroyer as well just to be cautious. She also callously ordered Fremea Seivelun to be killed after she was no longer essential to her plans. Yakumi also has no regard for her own safety, as shown when she was eaten alive by her own cockroaches. Because of having Yuiitsu's intellectual curiosity inputted in her, Hisako gets along with her quite well.
Biography[]
Hisako Yakumi's full background is unknown. What is known is that she's a member of Academy City's governing board and is influential in the medical field, even having a hospital in School District 13. She is 70 years old but manage to remain young with anti-aging treatments which she acquires from her powerful connections. At some point in time, Hisako rescued the 29th pilot of the Rensa cyborg unit from a difficult situation which she is forever grateful for, and most likely other pilots as well.
Abilities[]
High Intelligence: Hisako is shown to be very intelligent and has great scientific aptitude. Whether this is a result of Yuiitsu's influence is unknown. She is shown to be an expert in the field of medicine, able to rival even the likes of Heaven Canceller. She created Wildcard coccus, a highly dangerous virus that can kill on contact. Yakumi also created the cybernetics of the Rensa units.
Man-eating Cockroaches: Hisako can command a swarm of mutated roaches that are voraciously hungry and will eat almost anything organic or inorganic. The roaches can sometimes disrupt an esper's powers by unnerving them so much that they cannot concentrate.
