Villain Overview

Ah, you see, last time my advice didn’t turn out so well for you, did it? So it was a bit hard for me to show myself again.
~ Man-God to Rudeus.

Hitogami, also known as the Man-God or Human God, is the main antagonist of the light novel and anime series Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, as well as a returning antagonist in the upcoming sequel.

While initially acting as a helpful assistant to Rudeus Greyrat, the man reincarnated from Earth after a tragic accident, it is revealed that he is prophesied to kill all of Rudeus' children, including Lara Greyrat, Lily Greyrat, Christina Greyrat, Ars Greyrat, and Sieghardt Saladin Greyrat, and seeks to prevent their births by actively killing him. He is revealed to be a highly manipulative deity, who is actively behind the events of the entire series.

He is the archenemy of both Rudeus and the Dragon God Orsted, who is responsible for the death of the latter's father: the first Dragon God.

He is voiced by Kujira (who also voiced Orochimaru in the Naruto series) in Japanese and Brandon McInnis (who also voiced Gyutaro from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Dellinger from One Piece, and Ares Srowa from Banished from the Hero's Party, I Decided to Live a Quiet Life in the Countryside) in English.

Appearance[]

It appears as though his face is covered in a mosaic because of his blank white complexion and memory-eluding grin.

Personality[]

Hitogami123dancing

Hitogami's usual cheering attitude towards his guests.

When speaking with his apostles, Hitogami comes out as laid-back and casual, but in reality, he is a cunning, manipulative, sadistic and cruel trickster who orchestrates events from behind the scenes, in spite of being sealed away by Orsted's father for millennia.

He appears to find a rather perverse satisfaction in manipulating others into losing what they cherish most and then laughing at their defeated expressions. Despite his calm demeanor, he also has a temper and acts out when things don't go his way.

Biography[]

Past[]

The precise origins of Hitogami are unknown. It is known that the Creator God was born within the Void World after his death, without anyone's knowledge. The original Human God was slain or somehow usurped by the creature who would later become known as Hitogami, who then assumed his form.

The other four worlds were then deliberately destroyed by him and his five dragon generals, and he then went on to assist the survivors in escaping into the human world.

Hitogami took advantage of the Dragon God's weakness when the five Dragon Generals turned on him and killed him before destroying the Dragon World. But before Hitogami's triumph was fully realized, the dying Dragon God utilized his last remaining might to imprison Hitogami inside the Void World.

He is Orsted's sworn nemesis because he was the one who brought about the demise of the First Dragon God, Orsted's father. He was unable to visibly present in the Human World, but he continued to exert influence by using people's dreams as his "apostles" and making himself known in secret.

He persuaded Badigadi to take Demon Dragon God Laplace's Golden Armor during the Second Great Human-Demon War, which led to Laplace being split into two entities and a massive explosion that created the Ringus Sea. Presenting himself as the god connected with mankind but yet imprisoned in the Void between the worlds.

Mushoku Tensei[]

After the Mana Calamity, which sent Rudeus and Eris to the Demon Continent, he first appears. He counsels Rudeus to support and believe in Ruijerd. Rudeus views him suspiciously right away. After all of the helpful counsel Hitogami has given him, he gradually begins to trust him. Rudeus, however, appears to be continuously at odds with the Human God; it just so happens that everything works out for him. The Human God will kill everyone Rudeus loves, it is revealed when the future Rudeus travels back to the present.

This is due to the Human God's vision of a future in which Orsted collaborates with Rudeus' descendants to assassinate the Human God. He warns Rudeus that he won't be left alone unless Orsted is killed in order to prevent this future. However, following their fight, Rudeus agrees to join the battle against the Human God in exchange for Orsted's vow to protect his family.

Hitogami still has numerous disciples even if he is unable to communicate with Rudeus anymore. Hitogami deceived Darius, Reida, and Luke during the Asura Kingdom Chapter's events. Zenith Greyrat was taken from Cliff's home and delivered to the Latreia House by Geese, who was under Hitogami's control the entire time.

Sequel[]

One of the key plot threats that had not been resolved at Mushoku Tensei's conclusion was what would become of Hitogami. Rudeus did, however, have a vision in which Lara, his and Roxy's daughter, aided Orsted and another person—possibly Shinohara Akito—in reaching his world to eventually kill him and ending his reign of terror. This heavily implies that Hitogami will have a significant antagonistic role in the anticipated sequel.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • 『Divine Powers』: Even while Hitogami's full powers remains unknown, he possesses enough might to obliterate the Dragon World in a single blow. The first Dragon God made the implication that only another god could defeat him due to his immense strength.
  • 『Future Sight』: He possesses the strongest capacity to view the future of anybody, although Orsted claims that as he gains control over more apostles, his ability to see the future gets less clear. Despite this, he can somewhat alter the future thanks to this power. He cannot avoid utilising a large portion of his own future sight to continually stare at his own future, hence it is possible that he can only manage three apostles at once.

Trivia[]

  • The name "Hitogami" is comprised of "Hito" 人 (man/person) + gami/kami 神 (god), translating into "Man-God".
  • Laplace postulated that the Creator God's Corpse is the origin of the Hitogami Divine Powers.
  • Hitogami is referred to as Man-God in the Seven Seas light novel, whereas his name is Hitogami in the Seven Seas manga.
