~ Nishitani to Kiryu and Shishido before fighting the former.

Homare Nishitani III is the secondary antagonist of the 2023 action-adventure game Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, a spin-off entry of the Like a Dragon series.

He is the third patriarch of the Kijin Clan and is the owner of The Castle, a secret criminal society located on a dock ship. After learning that the legendary Kazuma Kiryu was still alive despite his supposed death, he had tried to track him down and capture him, which resulted in his own death by the hands of Kosei Shishido. However, Shishido had staged Nishitani's death and secretly recruited him to assist in stopping a planned disbandment of the Tojo Clan and Omi Alliance.

He was voiced by Kim Jae-wook in Japanese, who also portrayed Mo Tae Gu. He was voiced Tyler Yamabe in English.

Personality[]

Nishitani is very similar to his predecessor, Homare Nishitani. He is a thrill-seeking and violent sadist, who enjoys hurting people in any way possible, most commonly during fights, and he often refers to these fights and his violent actions in perverted manners. Though he is not limited to enjoying his own acts of violence, as he is shown to enjoy watching the incredibly deadly fights at The Castle's coliseum. He likes having his workers by his side, whether it be the Kijin Clan members or personal slaves he hires to keep his appearance in check.

Unlike his predecessor, Nishitani does not have any honor, and has many traits that the first Nishitani does not have. Instead of being a sadomasochist and finding thrill from having fights, Nishitani simply enjoys the act of abusing, torturing and killing people without any shred of remorse. It is also heavily implied that Nishitani sexually abuses his torture victims, and will subject them to immense torture of all kinds, such as cutting their noses off and denailing them. In one case, he had used a burning knife to cut his victims stomach, and would then go on to bury them alive in a mountainous area.

Biography[]

Past[]

Not much is known about Nishitani's past, except that he was previously a Jingweon Mafia member and that he has Korean heritage. Nishitani later left the Jingweon Mafia, sometime after the Tojo Clan had unleashed a devastating massacre on the Jingweon. He then joined the Kijin Clan and quickly rose through the ranks, eventually becoming the third patriarch and the third incarnation of Homare Nishitani. The Kijin Clan would later be enlisted to do the dirty work of the Watase Family, as Nishitani had appealed to the Omi Alliance captain and Watase Family patriarch, Masaru Watase, with his "signature" brutality and grit.

After Kosei Shishido was forced to join the Kijin Clan as a coliseum fighter, Nishitani had taken an interest in him. He would subject Shishido to physical, mental and sexual torture for many years. It is said that Nishitani had also taken in people that were considered weaker in the coliseum to undergo his torture. Sometime later, Nishitani had learnt that a Watase Family member was trying to desert himself, but the captain of the Watase Family, Yuki Tsuruno, was going to let the man go free. In order to impress Watase, Nishitani captured the deserter, and while in his captivity, subjected him to torture. Tsuruno would however intervene and put the man out of his misery, and shortly after negotiated a deal where Shishido would be set free from his decades-long torture.

Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name[]

Nishitani would eventually find himself as the owner of The Castle, and transformed it into an adult entertainment amusement park. He relocated the Kijin Clan's coliseum to the castle, and would hire Shishido as an event planner for the Watase Family. During a special coliseum event that is recreating famous events from the Yakuza world, such as a re-enactment of Ryuji Goda's last fight, a man under the name "Joryu" emerged victorious under almost impossible circumstances, which caught the interest of Nishitani. Sometime later, Tsuruno had entered The Castle without greeting Nishitani, something he always does. Nishitani chose to check up on Tsuruno, and found him conversing with Joryu. After Tsuruno says that Joryu was trying to keep his identity a secret, Nishitani's interest had completely peaked.

All of The Castle's workers were ordered to track down Joryu under Nishitani's orders. After they were all unsuccessful, Nishitani rode a motorcycle down The Castle's main pathway, hoping to crash into Joryu. Nishitani shows excitement at the two getting ready to engage in battle, as he has not had a worthy opponent in quite some time. After their battle, Nishitani is able to figure out that Joryu is actually Kazuma Kiryu; a legendary yakuza who was thought to be dead. Before he can confirm his suspicions, Nishitani is knocked out by Kiryu.

Shortly after this, Nishitani kickstarts a manhunt on Kiryu. Kiryu, Tsuruno and Shishido are able to lure out Nishitani from hiding within The Castle by spending a large sum of money throughout the city of Sotenbori, where he goes into hiding to strike Kiryu when he doesn't expect it. However, Kiryu took over The Castle and threatened to leak it to the public if Nishitani did not come out of hiding. Nishitani hid away in an undisclosed Kijin Clan hideout, and sent some of his men to bring Kiryu to him for a meeting.

Nishitani awaited on the top floor of the Kijin Clan hideout for Kiryu. After the latter, who was now accompanied by Shishido and the Watase Family, stormed the building and set it ablaze, they battled their way through the Kijin Clan to the top floor. Foolishly, Nishitani tried to fight Kiryu again, confident that he will win. After losing and being knocked out, he was going to be taken into custody so he was not able to witness and object to a planned disbandment of the Omi Alliance and the Tojo Clan. However, Shishido had pretended to stab him to death, so he could secretly pull Nishitani aside and inform him that the Watase Family were going to disband the Omi Alliance. Feeling betrayed by Watase, Nishitani agrees to joining his former torture victim in trying to prevent the disbandment event,

Nishitani, Shishido and every member of the Watase Family confront Kiryu, Tsuruno and Watase, who had just gotten out of jail. Their attempts are thwarted by the trio, but Nishitani is able to gather up his energy and land an unexpected attack on Tsuruno. Before Nishitani was able to potentially kill Watase, a car driven by Kihei Hanawa had rammed into him, concussing him immediately. Nishitani is last seen handcuffed to a pole, awaiting to be taken into the Daidoji Faction to become trained as a new agent, presumably alongside Shishido.

Triva[]

  • Nishitani is modelled after his voice actor, Kim Jae-wook.
  • Nishitani is the only antagonist in the Like a Dragon series to have three main boss battles consecutively.
