~ Snake and Ice informing Barley of their new names. |
Hoot and Jumper are supporting antagonists in the Super Edition Graystripe's Vow and the secondary antagonists of the Ravenpaw's Path graphic novel trilogy from Erin Hunter's Warriors book franchise.
They are the abusive brothers of Barley and Violet, as well as former members and leaders of BloodClan.
Biography[]
Graystripe's Vow[]
Snake and Gremlin spot Firestar and Sandstorm leaving the forest to find SkyClan. Upon telling their leader Fury, she arranges a plan to attack ThunderClan while their leader is gone, to avenge the death of Scourge.
During the battle, Gremlin is caught trying to escape with the ThunderClan medicine cat Cinderpelt. Fury demands Snake and Ice bring her over, but Gremlin's brother Scraps defends her. In response, Snake slashes Scrap's throat open, the latter quickly dying from blood loss. Snake then ensues a battle with Graystripe, to which the forest cat pins the other down but can't bring himself to kill him. Graystripe reasons with Fury and offers to heal her wounds if BloodClan leaves the forest. Fury reluctantly obliges, and the rogue cats return home.
Ravenpaw's Path[]
A Clan in Need[]
Barley visits the Moonstone and receives a dream about his brothers Hoot and Jumper, now renaming themselves to Snake and Ice respectively, attacking a she-cat named Violet. The two have taken over as the new leaders of BloodClan and under their orders its' members began stealing prey from ThunderClan's territory. Upon infiltrating BloodClan's hideout, Barley and Violet witness their brothers preaching to their Clan. Suddenly Violet reveals herself to them and tries to tell the toms that she's their sister, however, they rebut and denounce any ties they have with their siblings.
Snake and Ice then attempt to publicly humiliate and torture Violet, but ThunderClan patrol emerges from their hiding. A battle ensues, during which the two leaders only watch as their followers fight in their name. In a matter of minutes BloodClan has been defeated and the brothers approach their siblings, claiming to be interested to discussing the matter. Barley replies to Firestar that he will speak with his brothers in the only language they understand, before pouncing on Ice and starting to beat him, with Violet following suit with Snake. Ice calls out for Barley to stop before, alongside Snake, trying to reason with their siblings and re-acknowledging their family status. When the forest cats remain unfazed by that, the brothers claim that they have been misunderstood, as it was their followers who had been stealing prey by themselves, offering to help dealing with them. However, to their shock, Snipe and the rest of BloodClan cats have grown displeased with those lies and threaten the duo to never come back again. As Snake and Ice scramble away in terror, they plead for Barley to save them, only for him to reply that they never helped anybody and allowing the BloodClan cats to drive them away.
The Heart of a Warrior[]
Snake and Ice, now returning to the names Hoot and Jumper, attack Barley and Ravenpaw's home on Windover Farm with a group of BloodClan cats. Barley is distraught at his brother's continued attacks, but Ravenpaw points out that they've changed their names back, thus could possibly no longer be a part of BloodClan.
On a second attack, Hoot and Jumper are cornered by a white dog. Barley saves them, calling them weak, and the two beg to stay with him at the barn. They claim that Willie, another ex-BloodClan cat, will kill them, and Barley lets his brothers stay.
The next day, Ravenpaw gives the two toms a tour around the farm while Barley takes a walk, though quickly notices that the two visitors are lazy and expect everything to just be handed to them. When they get back, an exhausted Ravenpaw takes a nap while Hoot and Jumper make a mess of the barn. When the mess is discovered, Hoot and Jumper claim that they were only trying to catch mice, but no one ever showed them how. Ravenpaw argues that he'd been showing the two how to hunt while giving them the tour, but Hoot lies that the former forest cat had ordered them to catch mice for him while he slept. Later, the two brothers order Ravenpaw to catch dinner for them while they sleep in his nest.
The day after, they once again ask Ravenpaw to hunt for them, claiming that he's better at it than them. When Ravenpaw returns, however, Barley is furious with his brothers for how they've been treating his mate over the past few days. Barley yells at them to leave, to which Hoot and Jumper remind him they're his brothers, but the farm cat responds that loyalty is more important that blood. The two toms refuse, stating that they could easily overpower their brother, but are quickly proven wrong as Barley slashes Jumper across the face. He and Hoot flee the farm, but not before calling Barley pathetic and saying they'd never wanted to stay with him anyway.
Appearance[]
Hoot and Jumper are both very similar in appearance to Barley, being large, black-and-white toms with long fur and light blue eyes. They both wear black collars and, like most BloodClan cats, said collars are studded with the claws and teeth of cats and dogs. Unlike most BloodClan cats, however, they don't seem to have claws reinforced with sharpened dog teeth. Hoot in particular has a large underbite, with two bottom teeth sticking out prominently.
