The Hoovians, also known as Narnians, are the main antagonists of the Rick and Morty episode "Mort Dinner Rick Andre". They are a hostile race of humanoid canines that lived in the Narnia Dimension, a dimension where time moved faster relative to the real world, meaning that a few seconds on Earth was equal to several years in the Narnia Dimension.
Morty Smith visited the dimension to retrieve wine for Nimbus. He received help from an inhabitant named Hoovy (who at the time had a pregnant wife named Bova). Unfortunately, Hoovy made the mistake of visiting Earth while helping Morty. When he returned, Bova had long since died and had given birth to their son, Japheth, who killed Hoovy for abandoning them. Before dying, Hoovy told Japheth about Morty.
They were voiced by Jim Gaffigan and Tom Kenny.
History[]
Conflict with Morty Smith (past)[]
Morty was sent to retrieve more wine for Nimbus, when he encountered a now grown Japheth, whom he mistook for Hoovy. Japheth attacked Morty in a rage and proceeded to beat him up, but Morty managed to escape. He returned quickly, where he found an elderly Japheth tending crops with his boys. Morty beat him up, and after he left, Japheth died soon after. His sons were distraught, made a blood oath to kill Morty and started building houses which would eventually become a kingdom.
Morty returned for more wine and was confronted by kingdom's entire militia. Morty escaped just as they attacked, with citizens presuming him to be dead. However, the King was not convinced. One boy was convinced that Morty was truly dead and told this to his father, the King, declaring that their entire lives have been wasted due to the King's obsession with killing Morty. The King cast him out for his foolishness.
The boy was taken in by a sorcerer who used dark magic to increase his strength, allowing him to kill the King and his entire council. Just as he assumed the throne, the sorcerer killed him. While bragging about his power, Morty returned, decimated the entire kingdom, and retrieved more wine. However, Morty accidentally left behind a levitation glove which was quickly discovered by survivors.
Conflict with Morty Smith (future)[]
The people managed to reverse engineer the glove's technology and within decades, they had built a dystopian society. With Rick's technology, they had managed to open the Narnia portal. They had been working on "Project Adam": the man named Adam, after training hard, was put into a suit fueled by melted people, fed to the suit through a special tube. Adam went through the portal and began fighting Morty. Just as it seemed Adam would win, Morty's crush, Jessica, severed the fueling tube, resulting in herself and Adam getting sucked back into the Narnia dimension. Jessica was preserved in a crystal for future use.
Jessica remained conscious during this period and witnessed several events throughout the dimension's history. The dimension's robots eventually staged a revolution bent on destroying Hoovy's bloodline and were successful, usurping the kingdom and placing it under their rule, while retaining similarities to the population's appearance. When Morty returned, he walked into a trap and was captured. He tried explaining that he said he was sorry earlier to a scientist that was sent to study him. After breaking free, and beating up the scientist, he freed Jessica and escaped with her. A chase through the city began, forcing Rick and Nimbus to assist. Nimbus used a tidal wave to destroy the city just before he and the rest of the team escaped.

Japheth[]
| “ | I've been waiting for you... | „ |
| ~ Japheth's first confrontation with Morty |
Japhpeth was born after Hoovy left. Before Bova died, she makes him swear to kill Hoovy if he ever returns. Hoovy came back eventually and was killed by Japheth. Before dying, Hoovy stated that this was Morty's doing. When Morty returned, Japheth attacked him, but he managed to escape. Morty returned decades later and killed the older Japheth. Sometime before this, Japheth had had sons and had told them all about Morty.
Japheth's sons[]
| “ | We finally beat him! But let's always remain vigilante because you never know. He might come back. | „ |
| ~ One of the sons |
After seeing their dad die, Japheth's swore a blood oath to kill Morty. They spent the next few years building their kingdom, accumulating power and bearing kids of their own. When Morty returned and tried to apologize, they attacked him, but again he escaped. However they presumed him to be dead. After one of them kicked their own son out for not believing this, a coup was staged and the kingdom was destroyed.
Apprentice[]
| “ | Apprentice: You have wasted our lives, our very futures on a fantasy! A LIE! King: I know what I saw! Apprentice: YOU SAW NOTHING!!! |
„ |
| ~ The Apprentice argues with his father |
The Apprentice was the only inhabitant who believed Mort was not dead. He told his father, but after an intense argument, he was cast out. He was found by a sorcerer who also sought revenge on the Kings. He took him to his cave and enhanced his body magically, giving them the strength to stage a bloody coup and kill the High Council. However, after killing his father and assuming the throne, he was betrayed killed by the sorcerer.
Sorcerer[]
| “ | I was born in the pits that made these stones. I lost my years building a temple to a lie. So I made lies my power. And what is power but a lie that we -- oh shit he's real! He's real! I was wrong! I was so wrong! God is real! | „ |
| ~ The Sorcerer's last words |
The Sorcerer was one of the men whom Japheth's sons had recruited to help build their kingdom. While building, he put himself under the belief that Morty does not exist. He sought revenge on the High Council for forcing him to help build something that he believed was for a lie. When he trained the Apprentice, the two staged a bloody coup and after the Council was decimated, he killed his Apprentice. While monologuing on his reasons on why the coup was staged, Morty returned, and destroyed the kingdom killing nearly everyone including the Sorcerer himself.
Mother[]
| “ | Mother: Do you know why you’re special, Adam? Adam: Because I am The Traveler? Mother: Yes. You will be the one to pass through the door. You will be the one to end our pain. Adam: But Mother... what about my pain? Mother: Your pain shall set us free. |
„ |
| ~ Mother, to Adam |
Mother was Adam's supervisor and presumed mother. She oversaw Adam's training, telling him not to show Morty any mercy during their fight. Mother was presumably killed during the robot uprising.
Adam[]
| “ | For the future! | „ |
| ~ Adam |
Adam was the super-soldier sent back to assassinate Morty. Upon arriving in the Smith family's kitchen, he and Morty began fighting. Jessica severed the tube fueling Adam's suit and she and Adam were sucked back into the Narnia dimension. Adam was presumably killed when the robot uprising occurred.
Trivia[]
- The Narnia Dimension appears to be a parody of the Chronicles of Narnia by Lewis Carroll.
- Rick asking why everyone goes "Cyber-punk bird" is a reference to when his friend Birdperson got turned into Phoenixperson.
