Hoshi Sato III was a villainess introduced in the Star Trek: Mirror Universe novel The Sorrows of Empire.
A clone of the original Hoshi Sato, she was the second clone of the original Sato to rule the Terran Empire as Empress, and the last member of the Sato dynasty to sit on the Imperial Throne.
Having been cloned in 2248, Sato became Empress of the Terran Empire in 2267 after murdering Empress Hoshi Sato II, who had also been a clone of the original Sato.
Becoming increasingly concerned about the power and influence that Spock was gaining, she tried to have the Vulcan killed. In 2277 she sent a fleet led by Commodore Decker to ambush and destroy the ISS Enterprise with Spock aboard. After Decker's people mutinied and killed him, Spock became the Grand Admiral of the Imperial Starfleet.
A short time later, Spock decided to kill the Empress in order to allow the reforms he was planning to proceed. Using the Tantalus field he vaporized Hoshi Sato III, bringing her rule and the Sato dynasty to an end. Spock then succeeded her as Emperor, a position he would retain until 2293 when the Terran Empire was dissolved in favor of the Terran Republic.
