Hoshimi Maidono is a major antagonist of A Certain Magical Index: Genesis Testament, serving as the secondary antagonist of the Christmas Eve Arc.
She is a Level 4 esper and an operative of the Dark Side of Academy City who works under Norito Neoka, a member of the Board of Directors. She aids him in kidnapping Last Order as leverage against Accelerator to forestall Operation Handcuffs before it starts.
Appearance[]
Maidono is a young girl with an innocent-looking appearance. Her black hair is styled in a bob cut. During Christmas Eve, Maidono wore a long blonde wig as a disguise, along with tinted contact lenses. She is also seen wearing a miniskirt Santa costume.
Personality[]
At first glance, Maidono appears as a normal teenager who displays girlish tendencies and behavior, such as looking at things on her phone and taking selfies. She's also playful and familiar towards others, even towards her targets. However, at the same time, Maidono is very cold, deceptive and merciless, having no qualms with killing anyone who stands in her way or causing untold destruction and carnage. She is also quite sadistic, taking great enjoyment in the destruction she causes. She's described as the type of person who would ignore a dying old person while preoccupied with her phone.
Futthermore, it's shown Maidono has a complex regarding her ability. Her enhancements have rendered her unable to perform simple manual tasks like use chopsticks. She claims this has left her so incapable of fitting in to normal society that the dark side is the only place for her. Deep down, Maidono wants to be a regular girl who goes out to eat with her friends. Despite her ruthlessness, Maidono isn't without honor or sympathy, as she actually managed to empathize with Touma after he revealed his amnesia. After being defeated by Touma, Maidono becomes considerably nicer and even offers to aid Touma escape from the hospital.

Telekinesis: Hoshimi Maidono is a Level 4 esper whose ability is telekinesis. The power output of her ability is actually Level 5, but she is not ranked as such as her ability is too specialized in killing and destruction, having no alternate uses or economic value. Using her index fingers to aim her ability, Maidono can grab and move inanimate objects. By using both of her index fingers she can apply two different forces to an object in order to tear, compress or rotate it. The maximum weight limit of Maidono's ability is 100 thousand tons, being able to lift and throw entire buildings. While her ability works on solid objects, it's also able to manipulate intangible things as well. She can for instance also telekinetically move air to attack. However, her telekinesis doesn't work on organic beings such as humans and animals and is only affect inanimate objects.

Keen Intellect: Maidono is a rather capable agent of Academy City's Dark Side. She is very strategic and cunning, being proficent in diverting her opponent's attention with conspicuous actions, in a manner compared to that of a stage magician, in order to accomplish her goals, with multiple bluffs, escape routes and recovery scenarios prepared in case her tricks are seen through.

Electronically-controlled rope: Maidono carries an object looking like bandage roll. It is a electronically-controlled rope, which can bind, constrict, and kill on its own. To use it all Maidono has to do is to toss it close to an opponent. It had originally been invented as a serpentine duct tape that could safely wrap around and seal off leaks in gas or steam pipes at accident sites that would be too dangerous for a person to approach.
Disguse Mastery: Maidono is extremely talented in the use of disguses, often using them to conceal her identity and blend into the background. She can alter her color sample with wigs and contact lenses and uses thick makeup which is applied in a noticeable pattern in order to be seen through cameras, sensors and to the naked eye, so that facial recognition and photo sharing cannot be used to locate her official data. In addition to making use of events with abnormal security routines (e.g. concerts, festivals, parades etc) and plenty of outsiders, she uses conspicuous costumes (such as a miniskirt santa outfit, the sort worn by a part-time worker, on Christmas Eve) which actually help her to blend into the background, allowing her to approach in plain view from the start while being overlooked and preventing people from remembering much by drawing their attention.
