Judge Hope, Charity, and Wraith are the main antagonists of the dystopian horror series Black Mirror’s episode, Fifteen Million Merits. They are the three judges of the popularity show Hot Shot, who gives people working in the system a chance to get a leg up in the world. One of them, Judge Wraith, is the owner of the pornography company WraithBabes.

Hope is played by Rupert Everett, Charity is played by Julia Davis and Wraith was played by Ashley Thomas.

Personalities

The three judges are shown to be completely vain and mean spirited who (at least for Hope and Charity) hide it under friendliness and sophistication. The two are shown to be manipulative towards the contestants, promising them big dreams and to no longer be scraping by using the exercising and building up Merits. The three show to be out of touch, seemingly not understanding Bing’s speech about their corruption, which they feel “Touched” but are unable to truly understand it.

Out of all of them, Wraith seems the worst of the three, as he shows no effort to act sophisticated. He shows complete bluntness and anger issues, while hurling insults at people left in right. He also shows his pervertedness, sexually harassing Abi when she on the stage and being the main one to convince her to join WraithBabes.

Biography

The three judges are shown to be the three judges of the TV Show, Hot Shot, a talent show helping people in the tedious training cycle getting a leg up in the world by giving them their own shows, and Wraith was shown to be the sole owner of the pornography media, WraithBabes, which is implied to have their prostitutes drugged in order to keep them alive.

When Abi and Bing get enough points to go on Hot Shot, Abi gets up to sing while Bing stays on the backstage. The judges look unimpressed as Wraith makes provocative comments towards Abi. When Abi sings, they interrupt her and share that they do like her voice, but doesn’t want to make her a singer. However, Wraith and the two other suggest and start pressuring her into becoming a pornstar for his show, and makes his bodyguards escort Bing, which makes Abi agree to go.

After a few weeks, Bing snaps when being forced to watch Abi (who looks drugged) having sex on the advertisements. he gets on stage and shares his talent as a performance. He starts dancing before suddenly pressing a glass shard against his face, warning that he will kill himself on live TV if they didn't hear what he says.

Wraith initially tries goading him into committing suicide, however, Hope and Charity seems to allow him to talk. Bing starts yelling and ranting about his speech on how corrupt the system is and how all of them are horrible, which silences the Judges and Crowds. While Hope and Charity seem to be touched by this (Wraith looks simply annoyed), the two immediately misinterpreted his speech and then offer him a show, which Bing accepts.
