Houndleap is a minor antagonist in Erin Hunter's Warriors book series.
He is a minor antagonist in the novella "Spottedleaf's Heart" and a supporting antagonist in "The Broken Code" arc.
He is a Dark Forest resident and former WindClan warrior who trained with Thistleclaw, before working for Ashfur many seasons later. He participated in the final battle against Ashfur, on the Dark Warrior's side, where he briefly fought Rootspring, before getting defeated by the tom.
He fled with the rest of the Dark Forest warriors after Ashfur have been killed.
Biography[]
Spottedleaf's Heart[]
Houndleap is first seen in the Dark Forest, during Thistleclaw and Spottedpaw's visit. Spottedpaw notices that he looks like a Windclan cat, before he and Thistleclaw are ordered to fight by Mapleshade, which both toms proceed to do. The spiky gray tabby warrior gains the upper hand over the black Windclan tom and brutally pummels him, before being stopped by Spottedpaw, who manages to treat Houndleap's wounds. The young apprentice asks the spirit, why Thistleclaw is in this place, to which the tabby approaches from behind them, declaring that he's here to become a better warrior.
A Light in the Mist[]
He is revealed to have been one of the surviving Dark Forest spirits who began working for Ashfur, after the tom promised them a chance to live again once they help him.
Houndleap is seen when Ashfur is talking to some of his followers. The dark warrior calls his name and tasks him with finding Rootspring, along with Mapleshade and Rushtooth, thus putting him in charge of the patrol. After capturing the Skyclan tom, Houndleap is present during Darkstripe's death at the claws of Firestar-possessed Rootspring, before fleeing with the rest of the Dark Forest spirits.
He later participates in the final battle, attacking Rootspring with another Dark Forest she-cat, but gets tricked by the Skyclan warrior into crashing into his accompliance. After Ashfur is defeated, Houndleap flees with the rest of the remaining Dark Forest spirits.
Appearance[]
Houndleap is a little, scrawny black tom with amber eyes.
