The crowd roars for me?
~ Hsi Wu after escaping the Netherworld.

Hsi Wu is a supporting antagonist in the TV series Jackie Chan Adventures. He serves a major antagonist in season 2 and an overarching antagonist in season 5. He is the Demon Sorcerer of Sky who hailed from a family consisting of himself as well as seven siblings and later on his nephew Drago.

He was voiced by André Sogliuzzo.

Appearance[]

Hsi Wu, the smallest of the Demon Sorcerers, is a grey, mischievous bat- or gremlin-like demon with a lizard-like tail. Despite the fact that he is still bigger than an adult human, He takes on the appearance of a little boy around Jade Chan's age, with skin-tone-coordinating hair in his human form.

Personality[]

Hsi Wu is best characterized as cunning and manipulative, making up for his little stature and lack of physical strength with cunning and mischief. He prefers to avoid direct combat when facing multiple strong opponents (such as his siblings or multiple Chan Clan members) in favor of evasive strategies and cunning methods (such as retreating to avoid being banished and leaving the dirty work to Shendu, dressing up to infiltrate Uncle's Rare Finds, and stunning his siblings from behind to reach Shendu's Demon Portal first).

Hsi Wu seemed to have a personal animosity towards the youngest Chan from the moment his cover as "Seymour" was blown, possibly because of her role in his predicament with his tail and later her direct role in his re-banishment. Hsi Wu made two exceptions to this elusiveness rule when facing Jade Chan one-on-one (both times he thought she was unarmed).

Hsi Wu patiently pursued his objectives while posing as Seymour, putting on the act of an inquisitive and well-behaved young child. Uncle, however, mistrusted the disguise, remarking that Seymour was far too nice. Hsi Wu's patience ran out after finding his tail after it had been hexed, and he turned to anger and threats against Uncle. It got to the point where he was so enraged that he almost threw Uncle from their high vantage point when the chi-wizard made up one too many justifications for delaying helping the Sky Demon.Hsi Wu often disliked waiting when it wasn't necessary to combine patience with cunning, like in the example above. His own personal reason for detesting the Netherworld: complete, never-ending boredom. Hsi Wu's little tolerance and his fondness of playing with people are mirrored in this.

Regarding his interactions with his sisters, Bai Tza and Po Kong, to Hsi Wu's slight resentment, appear to order him about and physically pick on him. Hsi Wu, in turn, often seems to be a bother to Po Kong, fluttering around her and perching on her shoulder until she finally threw him off.

Hsi Wu seemed to have a colder and more detached relationship with his Fire Demon brother than most of his other siblings, who were eager to torture Shendu. As a result, Hsi Wu seemed to get along with Shendu a little better than the rest of their brethren, albeit in short exchanges in which the Sky Demon still expresses some level of contempt for Shendu.

True to his family's inclinations, Hsi Wu has a cruel side. For instance, after his disguise was discovered, he took a time to rub the distressing information in Jade's face. He also enjoyed mocking Jade Chan and Shendu with her Moose World camera. The impact of Hsi Wu's Demon Chi on his human host caused her to build a massive bird's nest and made her wish to migrate south for the winter, suggesting that he may have avian instincts. When he was free and in the parallel history created by the Book of Ages, Hsi Wu showed a fondness for high vantage spots. He covers his ears and cringes at the sound of the flute, which he really detests.

Biography[]

He was one of the last Demons to be released, his portal located outside the women's room in Fenway Park. Jade accidentally snapped off his tail, forcing him to flee. He tried to retrieve his tail but Uncle placed a spell that would prevent demons from entering the shop unless they were invited. Seeing Jade, Hsi Wu saw his opportunity. He disguised himself as a human boy named Seymour Jahoositz and quickly befriends Jade. He gets inside the shop and nearly to his tail only to be pushed out by Uncle. Next day, he was invited to the Spring dance by Jade and gave him a necklace with one half a coin. He once again tries to get into the shop only to find that Uncle had hexed his tail to immobilize him. Hsi Wu catches his tail in a bag, revealing himself to everyone (including to the horror of Jade). He kidnaps uncle, demanding that he undo the spell; Uncle said that he cannot and required to do another spell, but needed books. The Dark Hand brought spell books but their efforts were hampered by Jackie and Tohru. Hsi Wu flew off with his tail, determined to find some other way. But Jade, empowered by the Rabbit and Rooster Talismans, begins a flight chase across the industrial district. She is able to release his tail on him, as Jackie played the flute, sending him back to the Netherworld.

Later, after Bai Tza becomes the seventh demon to be banished, the demons hold a meetings to discuss Shendu's punishment. In desperation, Shendu claims that his portals can let them all out and that he had discovered a spell to keep it open until all of them were freed. While waiting for Shendu to open the portal, Hsu Wu is hit by a Moose camera. He followed its path to its source, Jade, who got caught in the banishing spell's beam and was pulled into the Netherworld after Bai Tza. He brings Jade to his siblings, which pleases Po Kong with the prospect of her first meal. But Jade reveals that, contrary to Shendu's story, only one being can go through Shendu's portal, causing debate amongst the Demons. When the portal opens via the banishment of Shendu's spirit, it becomes "every demon for himself." Hsi Wu is first off the bat, but he is stunned with lightning in the back from Tchang Zu. However, he pulls back ahead by knocking down Dai Gui and Tso Lan with boulders. Seeing all the other demons out of the running, he looks ahead only to see Jade jump through the portal, which closes in his face, leaving his last burst of speed to send him plowing into a rock.

Enraged at Shendu's deception, the demons prepare to torture him for all eternity. In desperation, he suggests using the Book of Ages, which horrifies the others, for they would never tamper with that. But with their current situation, they reluctantly agree. Rewriting the book, Shendu makes it that he and his siblings were never banished, making them rulers of the world. Hsi Wu has his own tower high in the sky, with Viper as his songbird. While scrubbing for Tchang Zu's arrival, he hears a flute, which he despises. It turns out to be played by Jackie, whose memory was restored, and Hsi Wu is once again banished.

Powers & Abilites[]

Hsi Wu has the capacity to fly very quickly. Jade was utilizing the Rabbit and Rooster Talismans simultaneously, and he was able to keep up with her. He has wings that can sever through concrete.

Despite appearing little, he is incredibly powerful and adept at using his flying kicks and razor-sharp claws to his advantage. Tchang Zu's lightning strikes likewise only temporarily shocked him, and it only took him a few seconds to recover.

Hsi Wu may escape from an opponent's grip by sacrificing his tail since, like actual lizards, he has a detachable tail. When Hsi Wu is within reach, his tail will make an effort to reconnect itself to him, suggesting that it may be sentient in some way.

Hsi Wu is a skilled spellcaster who has the ability to change into a human. Hsi Wu may partially assume some of his demonic bodily parts while still in human form. He can deceive just about anyone with the use of this talent and his cunning nature.

He proves his physical power by effortlessly lifting Uncle's weight with one hand while assuming the form of a tiny child, demonstrating that he is physically capable of carrying a person.
