~ Hud taking M.K. hostage. |
Hud is a minor antagonist in the AMC series Into the Badlands.
He is the leader of a nomad scavenger group who begin working with the Widow in her bid to take down Baron Quinn. She enlists his help in setting up an ambush for both Ryder, Quinn's son, and Sunny, Quinn's Regent, to kill both of them and thus allow the Widow to invade Quinn's territory.
He was portrayed by Owen Harn, who also played the Crazed Man in The Walking Dead, Deputy Stack in Max, and The Hunter in Gotham.
Personality[]
As a nomad scavenger, Hud is shown to be highly pragmatic, always looking for ways to benefit himself or his group. This prompts him to meet with the Widow when she offers to potentially make him a Baron, although he expresses extreme doubts over her ability to do so due to the Widow's Butterfly Clippers mainly being female, showing that he while he was out for himself his own personal biases could make him unreasonable even when it could benefit him. He also displayed a degree of sadism, laughing at M.K. before taking him hostage and taunting Sunny over the fact that him and his group were going to kill him and Ryder to aid the Widow in her conquest to take down Quinn.
Biography[]
Living in the Badlands, Hud became the leader of a nomad scavenger group. At some point, Hud became aware of a boy named M.K., who had a bounty put on his head by the River King. One day, the Widow has a meeting with Hud and two other nomads from his group, discussing her plan to take over the Badlands. She explains that if he helps her take down Quinn, she will make him the new Baron of the Armadillo Territory, of which Quinn controls. Hud explains that while he likes what the Widow is saying, he doesn't believe they have any chance of defeating Quinn due to him being the most powerful Baron in the Badlands. The Widow states that he won't be alone, as the nomads will have the aid of her Butterfly Clippers. Hud dismisses this, saying that female Clippers will not be able to help them defeat Quinn. The Widow then makes the proposition that if her adoptive daughter Tilda, a highly trained Butterfly, can take down one of Hud's nomads, then he will work with her. Hud agrees, but says that if they win, then they get to keep Tilda. Rooster, one of the two nomads who came with Hud, fights Tilda, but is overpowered and killed by her. Hud then agrees to work with the Widow, having seen the skill of her Clippers. Later, while the Widow is giving Hud a tour of her sanctuary, they catch Tilda kissing M.K., who is staying with the Widow. She angrily tells M.K. he isn't welcome there anymore, to which Hud explains that he will take M.K. as his nomad group is always looking for new members. However, he actually wishes to turn M.K. over to the River King to collect his bounty, and as such takes him hostage and locks him in their car's trunk. Later, Hud and his fellow nomads are sent to ambush Ryder and Sunny, whom the Widow has lured to an abandoned storage house. Hud and his nomads attack them and hang Ryder from his neck by a chain, then engaging Sunny in combat. Despite Sunny being massively outnumbered, he managed to overpower and kill all of them other than Hud. When Sunny is distracted trying to save Ryder, Hud attacks him from behind and begins strangling him, only for M.K., who had managed to escape from the trunk, to stab him in the back and kill him.
Powers & Abilities[]
- Leadership: Despite nomads generally being unorganized and not having any sort of hierarchy in contrast to the Barons, Hud was able to establish himself as the leader of a group of nomads, to the point where the Widow believed he could serve as Baron if she were to put him in that position.
- Martial Arts/Axemanship: Hud was highly skilled in combat, able to hold his own against Sunny, the most skilled fighter in the Badlands, and was even able to catch him off guard and nearly kill him when he was distracted with trying to save Ryder's life.
Trivia[]
- Hud is the only character in the series to use a hatchet as a weapon.
