~ Hulk as he crushes Iron Lad to death |
The Hulk (Robert Bruce Banner) is an antagonist of the 2024 Marvel Comic "The Ultimates".
When The Maker went back in time to rebuild the world in his own image, he found he was too late to prevent the accident that turned Bruce Banner into Hulk. So instead of simply killing Hulk off like he had done with many others, he instead offered him to join his council. Hulk accepted, and while this Hulk is not as cruel as his original Ultimate counterpart, he is seemingly more evil than him.
History[]
The Maker in attempt to remake his world in his image went back in time. During his travels, he would either prevent the incidents that caused heroes in the main timeline to exist in the first place, kill them, or have them join his council. However, The Maker found that he was too late to stop Bruce Banner's transformation into the Hulk and so instead had Hulk join his council. Bruce now stuck in Hulk form with the Hulk's mind accepted this and with The Maker's help would found a "pacifist" cult known as the Children of Eternal Light and would rule Tun-Lun with an iron fist (literally). Hulk would also continue Banner's experiments on gamma and this would result in an entire island being exposed to it, some surviving but being heavily injured and others dying. To prevent people from ever discovering this he would refer to the island as "Holy sacred land" preventing people from investigating it.
When The Maker seemingly died along with Kang and Howard Stark/Iron Man (when the latter betrayed them) the Council decided that they would wait a year and then open the dome to see if The Maker had survived. When Iron Lad (Howard's son) began to continue on his father's legacy and attempt to bring back the heroes of their world, the council decided to use Stark's technology against him and kill him and his associates. This would fail but result in the deaths of everyone in the area of the attack, the attack would also be blamed on Stark thanks to them.
When Hulk eventually found that the Ultimates had traveled to the island he had experimented on, this infuriated him. He informed the other members of the Makers council that he had been spying on the Ultimates and had come up with a plan to kill them.
Iron Lad and the rest of the Ultimates arrived to Tun-Lun. Hulk had fed them false information within the course of two weeks. Iron Lad hacked into the "Overnet" and found a classified document containing various crimes, including mass mind control, environmental collapse, and ultimately, a "Damage Control" site (Tun-Lun) holding over "1,000 super-powered prisoners. "Iron Lad considered the operation serious enough to assemble the entire team of Ultimates, including: Sif, Thor, Captain America, Wasp, She-Hulk, Hawkeye, Human Torch, Giant-Man and America Chavez. Doom however, remained behind to continue to run experiments that would benefit the Ultimates.
Iron Lad blasted down the door using a repulsion blast. As they entered, he was met with confusion as he discovered that what they had essentially walked into was an ambush. Hulk had been waiting for them, and asked the Ultimates if he would like to join him for some tea. She-Hulk, now face-to-face with the person responsible for the conflicts in her life grew enraged and charged at Hulk. However, he dodged out of the way, her punch missing him by a few meters. Hulk said to her that he hasn't seen her since she was a child and that she's grown. She-Hulk screamed at him, saying that hate made her strong and that she has been saving all her hate for that one moment. Hulk acknowledged this, telling her that rage can be a "devastating weapon in the right hands". He proceeded to land an uppercut enhanced with the power of the Iron Fist which was equivalent to the force of around 15 atomic bombs, sending her flying through the air and into a wall. Taking the moment to sit down, he ignored what had just happened and asked the other Ultimates about his offer to join him for tea. The rest of the team showed an immense sense of dread on their face. Back at the ultimate's headquarters, Doom was shocked to see that the communications network was now disconnected and that the rest of the team was effectively considered "M.I.A".
Captain America ordered the rest of the Ultimates to stage a retreat and try to evacuate the city. America Chavez tried to check the walls looking for some kind of exit, but she explained to Captain America that due to "some kind of magic" they were trapped within the arena and had to fight their way out of it. Iron Lad demanded to know where they were, and so Hulk answered that he brought them to K'un-Lun. He boasted about ruling all seven of "Heavens" capital cities, and asked the Ultimates what that would make him. Iron Lad refused to answer, and encouraged the rest of the team to show courage as they prepared to fight him. Hawkeye answered with "one giant, radioactive man." He told the Ultimates that they should be "honored", as terrorists were not permitted entrance to heaven that often. He said he made special arrangements, as he brought out six of his finest warriors nicknamed "The Immortal Weapons Of Hulk". Doom continued to re-establish the signal, however to no avail. These "Immortal Weapons" included: Decays Daughter, Fat Cobra, Uranium Brother #235, Bride of Nine, Prince Of Meltdowns and Crane Mother Of The Bomb. Hulk expressed disappointment as the tea had gone cold. It turns out the tea was made from a special flower that grows only within "Heavens Highest peak", and if they had drank it, it would've killed them "painlessly and quickly". Hulk then proceeded to order his Immortal Weapons to attack the rest of the team.
Captain America continued to urge the team to leave, but Iron Lad said they would have to fight their way out. As the Ultimates and the Immortal Weapons began to fight, he expressed to them that they had gotten their wish, bringing his attention and his anger. He proceeded to target Iron Lad, sending a flying kick towards him. Meanwhile, Uranium Brother #235 had landed a hit on Captain Americas shield, to which Captain America had blocked. Giant Man in the meantime was wrestling with Fat Cobra. Giant-Man was confused, shouting at the Immortal Weapons that they were supposed to be pacifists, and that he listened to the Incredible Hulk's audiobook. Wasp apologized to Giant Man, saying that some people would "say anything" to sell books. Decays Daughter proceeded to land a spinning kick on Sif, to which she blocked it with her sword. After multiple attempts, Doom had finally established communication with the Ultimates Network once again. Iron Lad proceeded to construct an energy shield around him, while Hulk mocked him and the Ultimates saying that they claimed to be "heroes", when in reality they were just "children". America Chavez flew into the air, along with Crane, creating a massive explosion that was around the equivalent of 15 atomic bombs and sending Chavez flying into the ground below. Thor was knocked out with a thunderclap from the Prince of Meltdowns.
With a devastating hand strike, Iron lad's energy shield broke allowing Hulk to land a hit on him. Hulk told Iron lad that he would "teach him about power and the real world". He explained to Iron Lad that he had studied the teachings of the Great Enlightened Masters, and came to the conclusion that there were three perfect words that described his philosophy: "Peace Through Strength". He then landed another palm strike on Iron lad sending him flying. Sif continued to block various hand chops from Decays Daughter. Human Torch, now enraged tried to restrain Uranium Brother #235, but he quickly knocked Human Torch off of him. Captain America encouraged him to keep trying, noting that everything had a limit. Doom now had a visual connection, and saw the chaos on the battlefield as his eyes turned to dread. Giant Man got stomped on by Fat Cobra, leaving him unconscious. Thor was being beaten down by two Immortal Weapons, leaving him to be helpless as he watched the other members of his team suffer. Sif could not block any more attacks, and was sent flying by a cyclone kick from Decay's Daughter. Wasp encouraged Giant Man to get up, but she was plucked from the air and eaten by Fat Cobra.
Hulk told Iron Lad that as the "symbol for worldwide peace", that he had "missed blood on his hands". He then proceeded to push Iron Lad into the ground with a power level of around 32 atomic bombs. Furious at how Fat Cobra had eaten his wife, Giant Man proceeded to throw a fist at Fat Cobra to which Fat Cobra blocked it. Fat Cobra suddenly began to feel a gurgling in his stomach, and was ripped apart by Wasp who had broken out of him from the inside. She then proceeded to faint, having used up all her strength. Doom continued to perform various calculations in an attempt to get a teleporter up and running for the team.
Hulk continued to throw Iron Lad into the ground. A shot of the arena is shown with America Chavez and Human Torch joining the list of Ultimates who have been defeated. Hulk thanked Iron Lad for "blowing up pipelines, destabilizing power grids, burning down the white house" because it had made more people crave the status quo. He explained to Iron Lad that although there were a few rebels, the majority of them remained afraid as if they would rebel they would lose the little they had. This would eventually lead to the majority of people believing that the Ultimates were a myth. He then finished Iron Lad off, crushing his insides within his suit which killed him. Seeing Iron Lad now fallen, She Hulk grew into an absolute fury tackling Hulk to the ground. She continued to pummel him until the Hulk crushed her hand. He then strangled She Hulk and prepared to finish her off. Doom, knowing that he had one shot at the teleporter, booted it up sending the Ultimates back to the space station. Broken, Bruised and Defeated, the Ultimates woke up from their unconsciousness. America Chavez asked Doom how he managed to pull it off, but their conversation was interrupted by She-Hulk. In tears, she told Doom that he was "too late" and that Iron Lad was dead, cradling his dead body within her arms.
Personality[]
It is unknown what his Banner personality is like given he seems to be trapped within the Hulk state, as for the Hulk state he will put on the background of a celebrity who wants to protect the earth. However, in reality what he and his team members are, are much more sinister wanting to rule the world and keep those who try to take down their new world order from doing so. While he also claims to be a peaceful pacifist when revealed how angry he is, he is cruel and tyrannical.

Quotes[]
“ | Howard Stark: Interesting sure is a word for it Hulk: And discord would be another. Any word yet on what purpose or meaning was behind today's attack? Emanuel Da Costa: I haven't heard a thing Captain Britain: Nor have I, Monsieur Hulk Howard Stark: ...I just got here Hulk: Yes, and I regret the events that led you here, Mr. Stark. And while I--of course--find such random violence unacceptable, I can't help but notice that the intentional malice against this collective of ours implies a lot of planning and forethought. Behind that, I suspect a desire to destabilize all that we have built-- a blow against our proactive peaceful union. Should such mindless--and pointless--prove to be the intent, well... That would make me quite... angry. |
„ |
~ Hulk interjecting on Howard, Emmanuel, and Henri's conversation |
“ | I promise you, Mr. Stark, no matter how it may appear to the world at large: There are no enemies in this room [...] That is the world as you know it. Look around this place and you will see there are seven major territories represented. And though we have not yet fully circled the sun, when our time has come-- each of our nations will play... the "adversary". Just as the Raputins do now. While inside our non-adversarial nations, we rally our citizens against this great evil, and all participate in whatever pageantry is required. Then, at the end of a generation, another territory-- one that has spent the previous age becoming more and more belligerent-- assumes the "rogue state" mantle while the previous one engages in a generation of performative regret. Around and around it goes. Focusing on the citizens' eyes on external threats and away from any internal failures of their own territory----maintaining the illusion of peace in an illusionary time of war. | „ |
~ Hulk explaining how the Council and the world work to Howard Stark |
“ | To be fair. Not all of us agree with such universal assumptions, Mr. Stark. I believe that some people-- many, even--are capable of achieving a state of inner calm that presents as peace. I have to believe it. I've devoted my life to it. But most are incapable of maintaining that state in perpetuity. They can't handle the quiet. They can't let their action be inaction. They can't maintain serenity with all the hysterical blabbing that surrounds them. I wish it wasn't true | „ |
~ Hulk telling Howard his outlook on life and disagreeing with Emmanuel |
“ | You know, as the worldwide symbol for peace, I've missed blood on my hands. I wonder if Gandhi ever felt this way. | „ |
~ Hulk reflecting on his life's work before slamming Iron Lad down to the ground. |
“ | I should thank you. Blowing up pipelines, destabilizing power grids, burning down the white house... you've only driven them deeper into our arms. Nothing makes one crave the status quo quite like a violent threat to it. Of course, a few will be inspired. A few always are. But most will be afraid. Afraid of chaos. Afraid of change. Afraid of losing what little they have. In time, they'll come to wonder if the Ultimates ever truly existed. If the whole thing wasn't an elaborate conspiracy. If you didn't really work for us all along. In a way, I suppose you did. Rest now, little stark. You've earned it. *Gigaton Vice Grip* In the end, you were our best little soldier. | „ |
~ 'Hulk Brutally killing Iron Lad. |
“ | I'm impressed! In a different world, your spirit might count for something. But this is not that world. Take heart, your defeat here will avoid a wider conflict. Your sacrifice saves millions of lives. In truth, dying will be the most heroic thing "The Ultimates" have ever done. | „ |
