These immoral villains will be torn into by the fangs of the Bloodhounds.
~ Ōchi Fukuchi

The Hunting Dogs are one of the major antagonists in the manga and anime series Bungo Stray Dogs. They serve as the titular main antagonists of the Hunting Dogs Arc.

The Hunting Dogs is a Grade-A military squad tasked by the government to hunt down criminals with dangerous abilities who abuse their powers for terroristic actions. They're known as the most powerful Ability User Task Force within the nation of Japan and the strongest military unit in the military police with an undefeated track record in all their missions.

Despite being the most formidable squad in the military, the Hunting Dogs are known to be one of the strangest if not the most bizarre group in the military due to all five members having wacky and quirky personalities. Even their leader Ōchi Fukuchi, has his own eccentricities and bizarre habits.

History[]

The full origins of the squad are unknown. The qualifications of becoming a Hunting Dog member are not a secret (considering how Doppo Kunikida knows). In order to become a member, the candidate must have their bodies augmented by doctors with supernatural powers. the doctors enhance their bodies granting them superhuman abilities such as enhanced speed, reflexes, strength, durability and stamina.

Members[]

Leaders[]

Ōchi Fukuchi- Ability: Mirror Lion

  • The Leader of the squad and a world-renowned hero for completing difficult and high-risk missions, Fukuchi is an eccentric and boastful man who takes pride in the Hunting Dogs reputation. He also has a vulgar and shameless side to him, usually doing or saying immature things. His ability Mirror Lion, allows him to strengthen any weapon he holds by a 100-fold.

Teruko Ōkura- Ability: Gasp of the Soul

  • The squad's vice-captain and known by her subordinates as the Blood-Briar Queen, Teruko is a short-tempered woman with an aggressive attitude in battle. Despite her appearance, she cares an intimidating aura that even her own allies fear her. She also has an abnormal crush on Fukuchi. Her ability Gasp of the Soul, allows her to manipulate the age of anyone she touches.

Members[]

Saigiku Jouno- Ability: Priceless Tears

  • Known for interrogating his enemies and taking pleasure in their anxiousness, Jouno is the most sadistic out of all the Hunting Dogs. He was a former executive of a mafia organization and was recruited by Fukuchi to be a member of the Hunting Dogs because of his great potential. His ability Priceless Tears, allows him to manipulate and disintegrate his own body into particles.

Tetchō Suehiro- Ability: Plum Blossoms in Snow

  • Considered to be the strongest Hunting Dog in terms of swordsmanship, Tetchō is the most calm, rational and honorable out of the five. However, he is still about as odd as the rest of the eccentric group, his most noticeable quirky character trait is that he likes combining similar-colored foods and eating them. His ability Plum Blossoms in Snow, allows him to increase the size, shape, and length of his sword.

Michizō Tachihara- Ability: Midwinter Memento

  • The fifth member of the Hunting Dogs acting under cover as a Port Mafia mafioso and Black Lizard battalion leader, Tachihara is the most complex of the five. As a mafioso, he's hot tempered, rash, violent and arrogant, and as a Hunting Dog, he's more so a reasonable individual. Tachihara also has a hard time determining if he truly is loyal to the Port Mafia or not, going through an identity crisis during the infiltration of the Sky Casino. After hearing from Ōgai Mori about the Armed Detective Agency being innocent, Tachihara learns that his loyalty lies with the mafia, thus ending his ties with the Hunting Dogs. His ability Midwinter Memento, allows him to manipulate metal.

Trivia[]

  • The Hunting Dogs' outfits are army green in the original manga. However, the anime changes that color to red.
    • The reason behind the color change is because of how similar the green is to the green of the Japanese WW2 uniforms and the nazi uniforms.
