Hurl Hurlbutt, Merle and Burl are the main antagonists of the Regular Show episode "Catching the Wave". They are a trio of surfers and enemies of Pops.
They are voiced by Roger Craig Smith, Matthew Yang King and Troy Baker respectively.
History[]
The trio first approach Pops on a beach when he was learning to surf and make fun of his name and appearance, calling him "Mondo Cabezo". During a tidal wave, they join the other surfers in the water. Pops tries to surf successfully but accidentally collides into the the group, who then chase him away along with the other surfers.
Hurl, Merle and Burl later go surfing at the park lake, where a wave machine has been fixed. When they see Pops trying to surf there, they surround and turn violent on him, but the park gang comes to Pop's rescue, fending them off with paddles. The trio then call for reinforcements with the "ancient call of the surfers" through bongos. In the midst of the battle, Pops is still trying to ride his first wave, when Hurl gets the wave machine controls, turning up the intensity of the wave, and Merle and Burl attack Pops while he is on the wave. Hurl then cranks it up to the maximum, creating a tsunami in the lake. He is stopped by the park gang, but not before he falls on and breaks the controls. The surfers sadistically gloat on Pops' apparent doom on the deadly wave, but are greatly surprised when they see him successfully ride the wave. They then decide to leave for some fish tacos, but are crushed by a pod of Pop's new dolphin allies.
