Husks are a species of humanoid creatures who reside in Hell. They are the souls of the damned, with many being sinners who were slain at the hands of the machines. When using the Terminal, they are labelled with a red background.

Biography[]

Husks are souls of the dead that come in all different shapes and sizes. The flesh that they inhibit depends on the value of the original soul, with enemies like Filth being so insignificant and weak that they don't even have a complete body, their bodies destructible by seemingly any weapon. In contrast, Minos, whose incredible willpower and status as a just ruler in life are remembered millennia after his death, is a lumbering giant.

Summaries[]

Lesser Husks[]

Filth[]

First Appearance - "Intro"

Flith are green entities caked in blood or dirt, having a large set of teeth in place of its arms and eyes. The more common and weakest enemies in the game, Filth usually attack the player in groups, trying to bite them with its jaws. Due to them being weak and unremarkable in life, Filth lack a true form and personality in death, with only an eternal desire to feed remaining.

Strays[]

First Appearance - 0-1: "Into the Fire"

Strays are beings composed of a mixture of raw flesh and exposed bones, lacking clear eyes and a visible jaw. The first projectile-using enemy in the game, they shoot a single energy projectile from a distance, running away from the player when they get close.

Schisms[]

First Appearance - Level 0-3: "Double Down"

Schisms are grey-green creatures formed by two souls trying to form a singular husk, their arms mutating into a singular gun attachment to the left and two humanoid arms to the right. While they at first seem to be extremely durable due to their armored skin, hitting the exposed skull on its shoulder will deal massive damage to it. They shoot multiple rows of projectiles either vertically or horizontally.

Greater Husks[]

Soldiers[]

First Appearance - Level 2-2: "Death at 20,000 Volts"

More skeletal than strays, soldiers are beings that have been partially mechanized at some point, cybernetics covering their face, some of their torso, and right leg. In the place of their right arm is a massive cannon, given to them by an unknown force. While they primarily fire blasts of energy from their gun arm, they are also capable of kicking V1 if it gets too close.

Stalkers[]

First Appearance - Level 4-2: "God Damn the Sun"

Stalkers wear black and gold-trimmed hoods over their faces, a cross between the head of a mosquito and a gas mask. Forced to carry heavy objects across the burning sands of the layer of Greed, their bodies have been contorted to best serve their purpose, with stalkers growing to become small, fast-moving entities. While they once carried stones as part of their punishment, they have been since altered to instead contain containers of sand, dousing enemies in it if not killed first. While they are incapable of attacking the player, enemies coated in stand do not bleed, nullifying V1's healing ability.

Supreme Husks[]

The Corpse of King Minos[]

First Appearance: Level 2-4: "Court of the Corpse King"

Main article: Corpse of King Minos

Sisyphean Insurrectionists[]

First Appearance - Level 4-2: "God Damn the Sun"

Sisyphean Insurrectionists are large, mutated humans with a great chunk of their body destroyed (including their head, right arm, and stomach), with only bits of their ribs and large, humanoid teeth remaining in the open wound. Their limbs are unnaturally long and twisted, with their remaining, nightmarishly elongated hand carrying a Malicious Face. As their name suggests, they were once noble sinners who fought alongside King Sisyphus against The Council, only to be mutilated for their treacherous acts. In combat, they can swing their arm around to try and hit V1 with their Malicious Face, create shockwaves by jumping up before slamming back down, and throw their object of penance towards the player.

Unlike other husks, the insurrectionists are not considered villains, seeing how they fought for a noble cause.

Ferrymen[]

First Appearance: Level 5-2: "Waves of the Starless Sea"

Main article: Ferrymen

Gallery[]

Trivia[]

  • The Filth's name and appearance are inspired by the Swans album of the same name.
