| ~ Dongsuk to Jinwoo. |
Hwang Dongsuk (Korean: 황동석) is a major antagonist in the webtoon, light novel, and anime series Solo Leveling. He was a lizard-type hunter, the leader of his own hunter guild, and the elder brother of the American S-Rank hunter Hwang Dongsoo.
He is voiced by Yasuhiro Mamiya (who also voiced Boiled in Sakomoto Days franchise, Gigantomachia in My Hero Academia franchise and Hugo Kupka in Final Fantasy franchise) in Japanese. In English, he is voiced by Jarrod Greene.
Personality[]
Hwang is a selfish and psychopathic man that hides this side of himself with a welcoming nature as he greets Sung Jin-Woo. He is strategic and calculative as he analyses and thinks of a plan to get rid of Jinwoo and Yoo Jinho by blocking the entrance and leaving them behind knowing that it would wake up the boss that was inside to have them killed. His true self is sociopathic as seen when he shows no regret upon trapping the two hunters inside the dungeon.

In addition, Hwang displayed an evil aura that Jinwoo was able to sense after he learned that there was a stronger beast inside the dungeon, showing that he feels no remorse for others but only for money.

He also has a cowardly side after witnessing Jinwoo's true capacity when the latter eliminated his team. This led to him having no choice but to beg for his life to be spared. Nevertheless, he also had a loyalist side as he felt a grudge for his younger brother for committing treason to his country.
Biography[]
Hwang Dongsuk greets Sun-Jinwoo as he arrives to join his strike squad for a way to make money. Hwang tells Jinwoo for the salary that he will receive before signing a contract and tells him that his job is to carry their bags inside the dungeon. As the group arrives at the gate of the dungeon, they are surprised by the size of the gate. Hwang leads his group as he enters the dungeon.
Inside, Hwang tells Kyuwan to use magic to light on the cave. The group is surprised to see that the place appears to be quiet. Soon after, Jinwoo warns the group that there are insect-type beasts incoming as a rumbling is heard that makes the group concerned.
A wave of insects then comes out from above to attack the group. Each hunter works to kill the insect. After having all the bugs killed, Hwang asks how Jinwoo was able to sense the incoming waves of monsters. Later Hwang realizes that among the beasts' corpses, some were not killed by them, giving him a clue that there are stronger beasts than the one they have just fought just now. Knowing this, Hwang now shows a maniac desire that Jinwoo was able to sense. After moments of walking through the dungeon, the group is shocked to see numerous cocoons of insect beasts trapped in large spider webs. Soon after, the hunters also discover a bunch of mana crystals. Seeing the shining minerals, Hwang is determined to surpass his younger brother who had betrayed his country and looked down on him.
Yoo then interrogates the group about how they plan on sharing the mana stones after having not only included how essence stone will be distributed not other collected resources. Hwang reassures Yoo that they will split the crystal equally before warning the group that there is still the boss that is asleep above them.
Hwang tells the others that they will take the opportunity on gathering the crystals before defeating the spider boss while he is taking a nap. Hwang asks another member if they had brought the equipment to mine the crystal and answers that he left them in the car. He then orders Jinwoo and Yoo to stay in the dungeon and guard the crystal while the rest of the hunters go to bring back their mining equipment that they had forgotten. Hwang reassures the two to trust him while they are gone. As they got out of the dungeon, Hwang orders Cho Kyuhwan to block the entrance. Now trapped inside, Jinwoo at the same time realizes that they are lizards hunters.
The explosion they had caused to block the boss' lair had also woken up the boss itself. Outside another member questions Hwang when they did not just kill Jinwoo and Yoo on the spot before collecting the crystals. Hwang answers that they would have woken up the boss while doing so and states that no one in the squad could take down the boss.
Moments later the group reopens the entrance and is surprised to see that the two hunters are still alive with even having the boss killed. Hwang thinks that Yoo must have killed the boss and tells him to kill Sun-Jinwoo to become their accomplice if he wants to survive. If not, he will be killed too. In response, Yoo walks in front of Jinwoo to protect him. Seeing this the group becomes hostile and plans on killing Jinwoo first. Kyuhwan launches a magic attack at Jinwoo sending him hitting the wall, but the members are surprised to see Jinwoo had survived the attack.
Hwang enhances his power.
As Jinwoo walks toward the group, he is approached by one of the members. He warps his arm around Jinwoo before getting beheaded by his dagger. The group are frightened to see one of their men killed by him as Hwang questions where he got the daggers in his hand. Hwang orders Kyuhwan to attack him again. His attack misses as Jinwoo cuts him in several pieces. Two other members rushes at him buts gets instantly killed. The other hunters are easily overwhelmed by him as they pain in agony from the magic used on them. Not so long after all the men are defeated at the hand of Jinwoo with only Hwang left. Hwang questions if Jinwoo was the one that defeated the boss before activating his enhancement power and dash at him but gets drilled to the ground. Realizing that he is a false ranker and that he is overwhelmed, he begs him to spare him. Seconds later he gets beheaded by Jinwoo after trying to finish his sentence about his younger brother.
