The Hydra is a supporting antagonist in the 2006 novel Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters
Biography[]
When Percy Jackson sends Tyson to look for powdered doughnuts so he can talk to Annabeth, Tyson goes out and comes upon a Monster Donut store. Tyson, being a monster, is somehow able to summon the outlet - bringing the Hydra with it. According to Annabeth, another Monster Donut shop pops up every time the Hydra grows another head. She says that, in the 1950's, Hermes' children found a way to use the Hydra's life-force to make a new chain of stores. Percy initially tries to defeat it by slicing off its heads, but succeeds only in making more. Percy, Annabeth, and Tyson are eventually saved by Clarisse, who completely obliterates the Hydra with cannon fire from the CSS Birmingham.
Later, when Tyson creates a shield for Percy, one of the designs depicts Tyson battling the Hydra as he holds aloft a box of Monster Donuts.
