Now, now. I never said that you were a bad person either. Taking life is just part of being human. We cut down vegetation, kill bugs, cook meat…There’s just no way to get through life without killing. But what pisses me off…is when someone who eats vegetables says that we shouldn’t eat meat. And when someone who eats meat says we shouldn’t eat dogs. And when someone who eats dogs says we that we shouldn’t kill other people. It’s such bullshit. Why is it okay to take one life and not another? Who gets to decide which life is okay to take and which is not? Who died and made them king? Why am I the only one that’s considered immoral?
~ Hyeseon Kim explaining her viewpoint of the world

Hyeseon Kim is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Junho Park) of the survival horror Korean Web-Manwha Forest of Humans, created by Junho Hwang.

A sociopathic spree killer placed on death row, she and 9 other convicts were picked for a private expirement in an abandoned facility in order to expirement on them before getting executed. However, Hyeseon shows to be the most intelligent and dangerous of them, and orchestrated a prison break to free all the prisoners and escape, while hunting down the survivor Ru Ha.

Personality[]

Hyeseon Kim shows to be the most well defined convict in the story, appearing the most out of all of them, and shows to be an extremely calculating, calm, but no less utterly monstrous woman who’s immorality holds no bounds.

Towards regular people and whenever she usually speaks, Hyeseon is cordial, calm, stoic and cooperative, able to hold decent conversations with others and answer questions to her hearts content. Despite this, Hyeseon proves to be extremely cunning in her abilities, able to take advantage of a situation get one up on others, and whenever her plans don’t succeed she usually finds a way to still benefit from it.

Hyeseon ruthless nature shows her to be extremely underhanded, especially with the way she handles taking out Ru Ha when she and Junho escape the facility. In order to track her down, she kills off both her boyfriend and her father, and stalks and watches her apartment to get the element of surprise.

Despite her having an extreme intelligence above all the other convicts, it’s clear Hyeseon is not mentally sane in her own right. Hyeseon exhibits forms of a psychopathy, with specifically an extreme detachment of human emotions, giving her stoicness and lack of emotions. Hyeseon shows an extreme joy to killing others, considering killing simply being human nature and shows annoyance over others criticizing her for her immoral actions, viewing it as hypocritical. With that extreme lack of empathy, also hides a very vain individual who in the end, only thinks of herself, promptly betraying her alliance with Junho and trying to frame him for everything that happened.

Biography[]

Nothing is known about Hyeseon’s life except for the fact she went on a murder spree that claimed the lives of 8 people, including her parents. She was arrested and sentenced to death, being placed on death row before being chosen, alongside 9 other convicts, to be experimented on in an abandoned facility in the woods with minimal security. During her interview, she calmly recalls a time she asked a bus driver to drop her off somewhere and when she was dropped off at the edge of town, she killed a child before getting a ride back home. She also talks to the Professor, who is asked about who is more evil between Junho Park, Gihwan Kang or Gyeongshik Kim.

After Ru Ha comes in, Hyeseon is pulled aside for a session with Professor Koo, who drugs Hyeseon with a sedative. Professor Koo then attempts to have sex with Hyeseon only for her to have pretend to drug, killing Professor Koo by gouging his eyes out and bashing his head in. She then proceeds to release all of convicts, except for Gihwan kang, who she doesn’t release due to his unstable nature. The nine of them proceed to slaughter the rest of the staff and go hunt down Ru Ha, eventually getting her.

Her, alongside Junho, Chungshik Lee, Bohyeon Lee, and Jaejun Park, all agree to kill her and has Bohyeon and Jaejun to take her to die. However, they discover Bohyeon’s corpse and that Jaejun is helping Ru Ha, and Hyeseon is chosen by Junho to assist him to find Ru Ha. Junho proceeds to tell Hyeseon his plan to kill off the other convicts before escaping and asks her to join him, to which she says she’ll think about. When Yeongsuk Shim asks if she can join, Hyeseon giggles when Junho declined because she was too ugly and killed her.

Inside the medical wing, she and Junho briefly discuss about the thoughts of getting better as they get syringes with poison, and when the power goes off because of Jaejun, Hyeseon and Junho proceed to have sex. The two later come and Hyeseon personally ambushes Giwung Kim with a syringe, killing him brutally as she and Junho stalk for others. They see Chungshik, having been stabbed in the head by Jaejun, and a recently released Gihwan and they debate what to do. They lure the two into a trap, and Junho attacks Chungshik with a needle, but to his horror the needle edge breaks and Gihwan knocks down Junho. As Gyeongshik turns on Gihwan and wants to torture him, Hyeseon attempts to drag his body down the hall to escape, befoee eventually slapping Junho back to consciousness.

Jejun and Ru Ha come in, and when distracted, Gihwan pummels Gyeongshuk before walking out of sight, with the four deciding to try and kill Gyeongshuk. He awakens, however, and attacks then, slashing Junho across the face and attempting to kill Jaejun. Hyeseon begins to yell at Ru Ha to kill Gyeonshuk with the buzzsaw before demanding giving it to her instead. When Ru Ha flees and Gihwan comes back, bashing Gyeongshuk’s head in, Hyeseon and Junho flee.,

They are later seen in a desolate hall, arguing with each other over how Gihwan got out his restraints. After some talking about what to do, they decide to burn the entire facility down. After setting up everything and beginning to have the facility blow up, they appear at the entrance with Ru Ha having they keycard. Hyeseon than proceeds to convince Ru Ha to let them all out before they all burn to death, leading to them leaving, with Hyeseon and Junho fleeing into the night.

Killing homeowner to squat in their house, they decide to find some way to track down and kill Ru Ha before continuing their crime spree together. Using Ru Ha’s phone, they contact and track down her boyfriend, who Hyeseon meets at his door and promptly murders, gaining access into their apartment before finding Ru Ha’s address. She also manages to kill Ru Ha’s father when he attempts to help her, and she and Junho watches from a bench outside, and argues with Junho. Subtly threatening him with a knife, she argues that stealth and the element of surprise is the best way to get her before having Junho go and finish her off.

When Ru Ha manages to incapacitate and seemingly kill Junho, Hyeseon comes in and manages to dodge an attack, from Ru Ha, smashing her head against a mirror. She begins to taunt Ru Ha about how she is trapped and rants about hypocritical society is and how killing his human nature. Ru Ha attempts to buff that it’s simply against the law, to which Hyeseon simply taunts that the law isn’t gonna save her. She slices Ru Ha shoulder and shoves her aside before saying that the law will bring Junho to justice, promptly planting a knife in his hand as she plans in framing Junho for everything as she gets away Scott free.

However, it’s revealed that Junho was spared by Ru Ha and, in a fit of rage, stabs Hyeseon in the gut. Hyeseon is upset and confused over why Ru Ha spared him after he helped killed her boyfriend and father, and Ru Ha simply tells her that she isn’t like them and that killing them won’t fix anything. She says that they’ll be brought to justices but says she’ll make sure no one ever compliments her. When the police come in, they find an unconscious Hyeseon Kim, her face mutilated and she is arrested, presumably sent back to death row.

Trivia[]

  • Despite sharing the main antagonist role with Junho, Hyeseon can be considered the biggest threat of the story, as she is the one who appears the most and is the one who kickstarts the story through breaking the other prisoners out of the facility.
