The Hyp-Nut-Tist is a one-time antagonist from the Fleischer Studios cartoon Popeye the Sailor Man, only appearing in the eponymous episode, "The Hyp-Nut-Tist".

Biography

In "The Hyp-Nut-Tist", Popeye and Olive went to see a hypnotist perform in a show. The hypnotist performed a bunch of magic tricks, where he'd lift a bunch of stuff off the ground and into mid-air just by wiggling his fingers, chanting a magic spell and telling it to rise. Olive applauded his work but Popeye didn't believe any of his magic was real.

The hypnotist called for a member of the audience as a volunteer for his next act. Olive declined the offer but the hypnotist hypnotized her and controlled her to come over to the stage. Olive struggled to run away but the hypnotist kept using his hypnotism to make her return. The hypnotist made Olive start acting like a chicken.

Popeye got sick of watching the hypnotist humiliate Olive so he went on the stage to give the hypnotist a what for. The hypnotist punched Popeye, sending him flying backstage. The hypnotist cast a spell on Popeye but Popeye blocked his attack with a mirror, which bounced his spell back at him and made him act like a monkey.

The hypnotist snapped out of his spell and cast another spell on Popeye to have him act like a donkey. As a donkey, Popeye booted the hypnotist into falling on him and crushing him back to his old self.

Popeye tried to fight the hypnotist but the hypnotist kept using his hypnotism to control Popeye away from him. Popeye got fed up with it and ate his spinach and then fought the hypnotist's lightning bolts with his bare hands and then punched him. Popeye then grabbed his turban and unraveled it and then tied to around himself and then punched the hypnotist and started yo-yoing him across the audience, until he landed in the audience unconscious. Popeye wore the hypnotist's turban for himself and then punched Olive to wake her up from her chicken trance.
